1. Definition Backache
Physical discomfort that occurs in any part of the spine or back, from mild to
immobility.
Low back pain in pregnancy is an uncomfortable condition due to the enlargement of
the uterus and increasing body weight causing the muscles to work harder so that it
can cause stress on muscles and joints.
2. signs and symptoms
Signs and symptoms of back pain include localized muscle pain, pain that feels sharp,
worsens with bending, improves with lying down.
3. how to handle
To relieve low back pain that is often felt by pregnant women, several things can be
done, including:
a. Practice good posture
try sticking your buttocks back, pulling your shoulders back, standing straight
and tall.
b. Massage
Frequent lower back massage can help relieve tired and sore muscles. Try
leaning forward against the back of a chair and lying on your side.
c. Hot shower
Taking a warm bath, a warm shower directed at the back can help with back
pain.
d. Side sleep
As your belly gets bigger, try sleeping on your side with one or both knees
bent.
e. Using a pillow under the stomach when sleeping
Sleeping on your side with a pillow placed under your stomach has been
shown to reduce back pain.
f. Sit and stand carefully
Sit with legs slightly elevated. Choose a chair that supports your back or place
a small pillow behind your lower back. Change positions frequently and avoid
standing for long periods of time.
