1. a.) A development of educators in Indonesia is evidence that there is a curriculum
development. Curriculum changes are a consequence of changes in political, social, cultural,
economic and scientific systems. It is also included in the ELT curriculum which develops
year by year. The 1975 curriculum emphasized more effective education and this
development was influenced by the management system. Then it was developed into the 1984
curriculum which is a form of improvement from the 1975 curriculum. This curriculum is not
much different from before because it still uses a system approach. This curriculum focuses
on the approach as well as the importance of the objectives of the approach. Then after that,
the 1994 curriculum was developed. The 1994 ELT curriculum emerged as an approval from
the National Education Law no. 2, 1989. The aim of national education is to improve the
intellectual life of the entire nation by mastering knowledge and skills, health, good
personality, independence and responsibility (Chapter II, Article 4). Then the 2004
curriculum focuses on classroom-based assessment, student-centered learning and school-
based curriculum management. Then the 2006 curriculum was developed again. In the 2006
curriculum, a multi-strategy and multimedia approach was carried out, adequate learning
resources and technology, and utilizing the surrounding environment as a learning resource.
And the last one is the 2013 curriculum. The 2013 curriculum proposes the integration of
Information Communication Technology into instructional practice.

b.) Characteristics of the 2013 Curriculum:

- Placing schools as part of the community that provides learning experiences so that each
student is able to apply what is learned in school to the community and utilize the community
as a learning resource.
- Develop a balance between spiritual and social attitudes, knowledge, and apply it in various
situations in school and society.
The things that are emphasized in these two aspects are attitudes and learning experiences.
Attitude is a very important aspect that must be applied by students inside and outside the
school environment because it is a form of self-quality. Student learning experience is also an
important aspect with the many experiences that students can gain and also gain a lot of
knowledge.

2. My opinion about Backward Design is effective learning used in learner design. As the
name implies, backward design starts from the 'end' first – that is, the real goal of the learning
activity. Then we will step back to develop teaching materials and activities that meet these
learning objectives. This learning model can also encourage students to be active in learning.
The activeness of students during the learning process is one indicator of student
understanding in learning. A strategy is effective, if it can involve students actively in the
learning process, and they succeed in achieving the goal. In my opinion, using the "Backward
Design" learning model, students become more focused because the teacher looks for
indicators and student learning experiences first in making the syllabus, then the type of
assessment is determined. Not only that in this learning, the first thing to do is the teacher
conveys the learning objectives first, the teacher will involve students in assessment
activities, for example by conducting questions and answers to discuss with all students, and
the last step is the teacher planning activities, for example with students forming groups.
discussion or the teacher asks students to explain the material in front of the class.
