Basketball is a style of football and volleyball style but it is not played on open fields like
the above mentioned games but it is an indoor game played on a rectangular court which is 94
feet long and 50 feet wide. At both ends, at a height of 10 feet above the ground, two mesh
baskets with a diameter of 10 inches and a depth of 18 inches are hung in a large hook inside
which the players have to put the ball on which they get points. Consists of and each half lasts 20
minutes. Each team consists of five players, with coaches, assistant coaches, managers, doctors
and trainers as part of the team, performing their duties off the court. Match officials consist of
two umpires, a referee, a time keeper and a scorer. The match is decided on the basis of points,
but if the points of both teams remain equal until the end of time, then five minutes of spare time
is given. It was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Nye Smith, a professor from Canada who was a
physical instructor at the International Young Men's Christian Association Training School in
Massachusetts (now Springfield College). He struggled to train students for fitness and
gymnasium during the rainy and snowy winters, and tried to keep gymnasium classes at his
school open even in bad weather. To this end, they began to consider an indoor game that could
be played in the long winter season in New England, and by playing it, their boys could stay fit
and strong.
During this time many sketches of sports came to his mind but he liked the football style
game which can be played under the roof, he hung a peach basket at a height of 10 feet and ran
Afaq2
into it to put a football ball in it. Tested After hanging the basket on both ends of the 25 feet long
and 20 feet wide room, two teams of five players was formed and a ball weighing 20 to 22
ounces was used to play it. The game remained anonymous for a year. During the Christmas
holidays in 1892, one of his students, Frank Mahen, came to see him. During the conversation,
he told New Smith that you have invented a unique game, but have you named it? New Smith
replied that he had not thought about it yet, because at the moment my focus is regularly on
making it a game that is loved all over the world. Mahen suggested that the game be renamed
"New Smith Ball" after his name. "With the name you suggest, this game will die on its own,"
Naye Smith said with a laugh. On this, Mahen said, "Why not call this game" basketball "in the
context of peach basketball?" Nye Smith liked the name and said that the game uses basketball
and ball, so "basketball" is a good name. Nye Smith later developed the rules of the game and in
January 1892, Y. The MCA Gymnasium Albany held its first official competition in New York
in which two teams of 9 athletes participated. The match ended 1-0 points. The final shot of the
game was hit from a distance of 25 feet which went straight into the basket and fell.
It was innovated in 1906, and the peach basket was replaced by a metal fence in which
the basket was made of strings, but the bottom of the basket was closed, causing the shooter to
throw the ball into the basket. The ball was needed to continue the match after gaining points by
inserting, which was used to remove the stick, during this process the game had to be stopped
and time out, which was a waste of time. The base was removed from the new basket, now the
ball falls out of space after entering the basket. Men's basketball was first included in the 1936
Summer Olympics in Berlin, although an exhibition match of the series was held in 1904. Most
of the Olympics were dominated by the United States. The final match between the United States
and Russia in 1972 was so controversial that it was played three times. In the final match, Russia
Afaq3
defeated the United States and became the Olympic champion. Basketball, which was introduced
in the United States in 1892, was introduced to the region after the arrival of American troops in
the subcontinent and soon became popular in Karachi and Lahore. American players formed the
Karachi Amateur Basketball Association and under its auspices basketball competitions began to
be organized. After Karachi and Lahore in 1906, Gordon College became popular in Rawalpindi.
The first All India Basketball Championship was held in 1910 at the YMCA Karachi Basketball
Court which was held regularly every year till 1930. In 1920, it became a regular sport at the
university level.
In 1930, the Punjab Olympic Association included it in the Olympic Games and in 1934;
the sport was first introduced in the Delhi Olympic Games. In 1936, basketball was recognized
by the International Olympic Committee and included in the World Olympic Championships in
Berlin. In February 1952, the Pakistan Amateur Basketball Federation was formed. He joined the
International Basketball Federation in 1953. Currently, 100 basketball associations around the
world, including Pakistan, are members of the International Basketball Federation. The FIBA
Basketball World Cup and the Men's Olympic Basketball Tournament are the major tournaments
in the sport, with national level teams from around the world taking part, while the Professional
National League is organized under the auspices of the American National Basketball
Association. ۔It was recognized as a women's sport by the International Olympic Committee in
1970 and was included in the 1976 Olympic Games. From 1976 to 2016, women's teams have
competed in 11 Olympics, with Russia winning the first two and the United States winning nine
Olympic championships.
