Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric - Task 2 – Translation in Action


1. Activity Description

With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:
Learning Outcome 1: To apply the concepts regarding translation techniques through
the completion of different translation tasks.
The activity consists of:
Step 1: Annotated translation
Read the required bibliography: Lewis, 2007, Molina & Hurtado, 2002 and watch the
VIO in unit 1.

Download the file with the name: "Final Break", choose one of the parts and share
your choice in the forum, so, no paragraphs are repeated among students.

Do not forget to deactivate the automatic machine Worldlingo translator, otherwise
the paragraph will be automatically translated by the software and no points will be
assigned for the translation of the text.

Use Wordfast Anywhere to translate the chosen part of the text. Share a screenshot
of the process in the forum.

Meanwhile, write a text about the problems you faced and relate it to contents of the
course highlighting the translation techniques used.

Download the file “An attempt at explaining the translation process” and use it as an
example. Describe at least three translation techniques used. Cite and add references
according to APA.

Use the following structure for the analysis:

Paragraph 1: Note 1 – mention the translation technique used with example


Paragraph 2: Note 2 – mention the translation technique used with example
Paragraph 3: Note 3 – mention the translation technique used with example
Paragraph 4: Conclusion as personal reflection on your translating process

Step 2: Comparative chart


Afterward, considering the course contents, create a chart about the difference
between translation method, translation strategy, and translation technique. Give an
example for each concept. Add references in APA style.

Share the chart in the forum and make comments con your classmates’
contributions.

Step 3: Submission
The group compiles the translated parts of the text; the reviser student must make
sure the target text is coherent and fluently readable in the target language.

The group compiles all the charts in one.

The compiler student of the group adds in a word/pdf document the course name,
group number, the name of the participants, the target text and the final chart.

One student of the group submits it through the monitoring and evaluation
environment.

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidence to Submit

For Independent evidence, consider the following:


▪ Share the task progress in the forum of the activity located in the learning
environment.

▪ Before delivering the final document, make sure it meets all the requirements
indicated in this activity guide.

▪ Follow APA standards, taking into account that concepts develop that are not
authored by students are mandatory. Remember to use citation.

▪ Be respectful of your peers' time and participate in the forum at least one
week before the activity closes.
For Group Work evidence, consider the following:
▪ All members of the group must participate with their contributions in the
development of the activity.

▪ In each group a single member will be chosen to submit the requested
product in the environment indicated by the teacher.

▪ Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it meets
all the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

▪ Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during the
time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the submitted
product.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.
