Discovery Task 1: Configure Device Defaults

This discovery task describes and configures device defaults.

Complete these steps to change the device defaults:

Navigate to Device > Device Settings > Device Defaults. Find the 9971 SIP Device
Type and Protocol.

Verify the Device Pool to Default.

Documentation

Use device defaults to set the default characteristics of each type of device that
registers with a Cisco Unified Communications Manager. The device defaults for
a device type apply to all autoregistered devices of that type within a Cisco
Unified Communications Manager cluster.

You can set the following device defaults for each device type to which they
apply:

Device Load: Lists the firmware load that is used with a particular type of
hardware device.

Device pool: Allows the administrator to choose the device pool that is
associated with each type of device.
Phone button template: Indicates the phone button template that each type
of device uses.

A device inherits the device default settings for its device type when it
autoregisters with Cisco Unified Communications Manager.

Discovery Task 2: Configure Phone Button Template

This discovery task describes and configures a phone button template.

Complete these steps to create a new phone button template:

Navigate to Device > Device Settings > Phone Button Template.

Find the Standard 9971 SIP template and click the Copy icon.

In the Button Template Name field, enter 9971 SIP Standard + SD for the phone
button template.

In the row for the last Line feature, choose Speed Dial from the drop down list.

Click Save.
Documentation

Creating and using templates provides a fast way to assign a common button
configuration to many IP phones. Cisco Unified Communications Manager
includes several default phone button templates. When adding phones, you can
assign one of these templates to the phones or you can create a new template,
if necessary.

Make sure that all phones have at least one line assigned. Normally, the line is
assigned to button 1. Additional lines can be assigned to a phone, depending on
the IP phone model. Phones generally also have several features, such as speed
dial and call forward, which are assigned to the remaining buttons.

Before adding any IP phones to the Cisco Unity Connection system, create phone
button templates with all of the required combinations of phone button
templates for all used IP phone models.

Discovery Task 3: Configure Common Phone Profile

This discovery task describes and configures the common phone profile.

Complete these steps to create a new device profile:

Navigate to Device > Device Settings > Common Phone Profile.

Click Add New.

In the Name field, enter HQ CPP and in the Description field enter HQ Common
Phone Profile.

Browse through the other settings but leave them at their default setting.

Click Save when finished.
