Show Control Systems

SHOW CONTROL
MOSAIC Be memorable. Special effects are no longer just for the stage. Everyday
life has become the staging ground for entertainment experiences. It is not enough
to engineer a space or structure functionally. The art and wonder of interactive
lighting, automation, audio and visual spectacle, kinetic art displays, water effects
and more are captivating people’s attention – differentiating a venue, creating a
landmark, making a truly memorable event.

But how? Unison Mosaic Show Control. You need a control solution that can
merge disparate elements – show control, LEDs, moving lights, media effects and other
elements into one visionary work – seamlessly closing the distance between architectural and
entertainment technology.

ETC’s Unison Mosaic Show Control System assembles the pieces you need, giving you the
freedom to focus on creativity not technology. Mosaic Show Control provides state of the art
software and hardware tools. Easy to learn and use, Mosaic Designer Software provides the
canvas for your artistic design, from conception through programming to execution. Mosaic
Show Controllers (MSCs) are the ultra-compact hardware solution, running your shows reliably,
with peace of mind precision. And the MSCs’ wide range of inputs and outputs include industry
standard network protocols to facilitate system integration as needed.

For retail, museum and themed spaces, art installations and special events – any unique
environment – Mosaic Show Control is the solution.

Freedom to focus on creativity not technology. Unison Mosaic Designer Software provides the framework for creating
your unique work of art. Everything you need is here: from importing project plans for system layout, to positioning
luminaires, moving lights and other devices in the plan, to editing triggers and timelines, picking specific colours,
programming special effects, mapping pixels to an array, playing back video clips, visualising the results and uploading
your show.

Until now, your only option was to program your show on a lighting control desk and capture it on a playback device.
That is a limited way to control lighting and other effects – it can only reproduce its output as programmed, with no
opportunity for interaction.

With Mosaic – you don’t need a desk. You already have one – inside the Designer Software. You directly create a real
show in real time using your Mac or PC. Even after uploading the show, you have all the features you need to
influence and modify your design so it’s interactive with the outside world.

Each of your projects is unique – a ‘one off’. Wouldn’t you like to turn to one software
solution, time and time again, for all your projects – without needing a computer
science degree? Unison Mosaic Designer Software melds the capabilities of a lighting
control desk, the flexibility of a media server and the precision of a PLC to empower you
to achieve your artistic visions – on time and on budget.

Mosaic Designer Software guides you through your projects with a treasure trove of
tools at each step.

DesignView allows you to import images to form the basis of your lighting design
so that fixtures and other elements reflect your project team’s architectural plans.

FixtureManager’s deep library of multi-attribute fixtures gives you drag and drop
access to your LEDs, moving lights and other devices – including those from
different manufacturers. Designer even has a dedicated interface for pan/tilt and
beam control of moving lights.

Create an infinite mosaic of show looks with Designer’s TimeSlice. Program each
element of your design using visual, timeline based blocks. Use ColorPick,
Designer’s powerful colour selector, to change intensity and hue, which are then
displayed on the timeline itself. EasyFX brings out the artistry of your design with a
comprehensive range of customisable special effects. Moving lights have their own
dedicated programming interface to avoid complicating the primary intensity and
colour controls. And you can place fixture and design elements on the same timeline
for seamless coordination across the entire show.

Chart new territory. Designer’s PixelMap goes way beyond traditional lighting
effects enabling you to define a group of fixtures as a virtual screen and then play
back static or video images on it. Use this as true video playback across an LED array
or to generate dynamic and fluid colour effects across large numbers of LEDs and Features
other fixtures or luminaires. The Mosaic Show Control system replaces the separate DesignView
lighting control and video pixel mapping systems that would otherwise be required.
FixtureManager
TriggerManager links your presentation to the outside world by allowing specific
TimeSlices to be linked to either external inputs or real time events (including sunrise TimeSlice
and sunset). You can also place conditions on triggers so that an event will only ColorPick
occur if a series of requirements are met. ControlView transforms your design
elements into a simulation environment for viewing your project before installation EasyFX
– including the ability to test triggers and show programming. With LiveControl, if PixelMap
Mosaic Controllers are connected during simulation you can output the show
directly to the fixtures or luminaires themselves. The Mosaic RealEngine ensures an TriggerManager
accurate representation of your show – whether in software simulation or when ControlView
played live via the hardware.

UNISON MOSAIC
SHOW CONTROLLERS
Set it and forget it. The Unison Mosaic Show Controllers (MSCs) are the permanent part of your installation.
Designed from the outset to withstand the wear and tear of any circumstances – hidden away in a themed
environment or a small electrical cabinet, or built into the structure of an art installation itself – Mosaic MSCs are
hardcore control hardware.

Phenomenal power in a compact device. Tired of cobbling together black boxes and protocol converters? Mosaic
controllers come packed with ports for extreme integration with other devices. The Mosaic Show Controller 1 (MSC1)
and Mosaic Show Controller 2 (MSC2) speak Ethernet, RS232 Serial and MIDI natively, and include tried and tested on
board digital inputs – so you have everything you need right on the controller. With radically simple expansion
modules – like DMX, RS485 Serial, analogue audio, SMPTE and DALI – you can customise your system to each project
or event. And for power beyond compare – universes of control for all your grand scale ideas – the Mosaic Show
Controller X (MSC X) masters up to 102,400 channels. To expand your reach to anywhere a network can take you, the
Mosaic Remote Input/Output Modules offer your choice of digital inputs, relay outputs and serial ports.

1 AND 2
Packed with power. These ‘instant on’ compact devices run your sophisticated shows
reliably and precisely, time after time. The Mosaic Show Controller 1 (MSC1) and the
Mosaic Show Controller 2 (MSC2) support DMX512 and DMX over Ethernet protocols
to control colour mixing and conventional dimmable luminaires and automated lights.
MSC1 offers one DMX universe – 512 channels (or 170 RGB colour mixing units). MSC2
offers two universes – 1024 channels (or 340 RGB colour mixing units). Per universe,
you can choose to output DMX512 directly to your devices or send the data to your
network using DMX over Ethernet protocols: ETCNet2, Philips KiNet, ArtNet2 or
Pathway XDMX. Net3 (sACN) protocol to follow during the autumn of 2009.

Each MSC has the same extensive range of external triggering interfaces, including
Ethernet, RS232 Serial, MIDI and digital inputs. The built in real time clock triggers
precise timed events, including sunrise and sunset astronomical cues. Additional
triggering interfaces are supported by optional MSC Expansion Modules attached
directly to the unit.

Put your control wherever you need it. Whether in themed environments, art
installations, fountains, museum exhibitions or scattered throughout a venue, Mosaic
Controllers handle it all. Multiple MSCs can be used together for larger installations and Features
synchronised automatically over Ethernet.

UNISON MOSAIC
SHOW CONTROLLER X
Extreme show control. The Unison Mosaic control system offers a network fabric rich in
strength and flexibility for most applications – lighting and LED arrays, kinetic art
displays, media and facility wide special effects – enough power for almost any venue or
event. But there are exceptions – installations where yet more control is needed. In
those cases, the Mosaic Show Controller X range is the exact choice.

The X in MSC X stands for the exceptional project that demands much more control –
unprecedented power and integration. These very large projects pose a number of
challenges: from the sheer volume of control required and the need for it to be
Features
synchronised across all luminaires, fixtures and devices, to the variety of different
technologies that need to work together, to high level media content integration.
VideoConnect Designed to meet the unique needs of such landmark projects, the MSC X is available in
QuickChange
capacities ranging from 10,240 channels of DMX over Ethernet (20 universes) up to
more than 100,000 channels (200 DMX universes, or 34,000 RGB LEDs!) from a single
RealEngine 19” rack mounted unit.
LiveControl Expansive control. Like its siblings MSC1 and MSC2, the MSC X has an extensive range
DesignerAccess
of external triggering interfaces, including Ethernet, RS232 Serial and DMX input. A
built in real time clock triggers precise timed events, including sunrise and sunset
astronomical cues. Additional triggering interfaces are supported by networking with
MSC1 or 2 and their Expansion Modules and/or Mosaic Remote Input and Output
Modules. As a DMX over Ethernet device, the MSC X also empowers you to send the
data to your network using Ethernet protocols ETCNet2, (Net3 (sACN) to be available
autumn 2009), Philips KiNet, ArtNet2 or Pathway XDMX, simultaneously. But unlike any
other Mosaic device, the MSC X includes VideoConnect – digital video outputs using
Firewire and DVI connections to master pixel mapping on video based fixtures, as well as
a Firewire digital video input for live video mapping in real time.

Hardcore hardware for extreme software. Using Mosaic Designer software, all Mosaic
Show Controllers feature QuickChange, where invaluable show data is stored on a
removable flash memory card and can be transferred to another MSC if needed. The
