Objective(s): The students will be able to compare different writing styles, illustrations, and
story elements between two authors.

How do you know if you’ve met the objectives? : They will help complete a Venn-diagram
chart with 2 authors that have been studied prior.

Engage

 I will start by having the students reflect on what we have

noticed so far in our author study.

Explore

 We will look back on the illustrations, plots, characteristics,

and other story elements to help recall previous discussion.

Explain
 We will talk as a class that authors can have similarities and
differences in their writing styles. We will look into story
elements such as the illustrations, story elements,
characteristics, and other possible similarities and differences
the students may notice.

Apply
 As a class, we will fill out a venn-diagram on google slides that
will help the students see the characteristics of both authors and
what they may have in common.

Share
 We will talk about how different authors can be similar and
different. We will also discuss how we can find authors and
books that appeal to us based on their writing styles,
characteristics, and other story elements.

 The students will reflect in class as to what they took away
from it and how it can be applied to their own reading.

 The students will be able to make connections between their
own texts as they develop their reading.
