ENGAGE: K-W-L CHART

Fill in the K-W-L chart with the needed information. K stands for what you KNOW about the lesson, W
stands for what you WANT to learn about the lesson and L stands for what you LEARNED about the
lesson. The L column being the last column should be filled in at the end of the lesson. Therefore before
going to the main part of the lesson, the KNOW AND WANT columns should be filled in first.

K…KNOW

So this lesson is all about human rights some knowledge that I know is that human right are norms that
aspire to protect all people everywhere from severe political, legal, and social abuses. Examples of
human rights are the right to freedom of religion, the right to a fair trial when charged with a crime, the
right not to be tortured, and the right to education.

W…WHAT

I want to learn more about human rights. The classification of it, basic principle of human right and the
bill of rights.

L…LEARNED

I learned that human right is fundamental freedoms which are necessary and indispensable in order to
enable every member of the human race to live a life of dignity.

LESSON 1
ACTIVITY NO. 1 (Read reference books and open links) Explore/Evaluate
MAKE A CONCEPTUAL DEFINITION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND RANGED AGAINST YOUR
EXPERIENCE AS A STUDENT, NARRATE YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE WHEREIN YOU FELT
YOU WERE DEPRIVED OF YOUR HUMAN RIGHT IN THE CONTEXT OF YOUR DEFINITION.
~In my own definition human rights is the right of every human, in short freedom it is being free in
everything without judgement or without offending the laws. More on to us students we all want the
freedom to express our own opinion. Just like this in my own experience, it’s our prelim exam it has a
time limit but some of my classmates had a trouble to take the exam. They shared their reasons to our
teacher but he didn’t give any consideration to the students who didn’t take the exam will be marked zero
or no chances. So we sent our opinion and concerns to our teacher but he got mad to us and said take his
subject seriously. Even though we want to help our classmate who doesn’t take the examination because
of poor signal, still we can’t do anything.

LESSON 2
ACTIVITY NO. 2 (Read reference books and open links) Explore/Evaluate
Identify and differentiate the different classes of human rights and make your own assessment if these
rights are being recognized, upheld, and protected by the state or government.
This are the different classes of human right:
Civil rights (the right to be treated as an equal to anyone else in society)
Political rights (the right to freedom of opinion and expression; the right to take part in the conduct of
public affairs; and the right to vote and to be elected)
Economic rights (the right to participate in an economy that benefits all; and to desirable work)
Social rights (the right to education, health care, food, clothing, shelter, and social security)
Cultural rights (the right to freedom of religion, and to speak the language, and practices the culture of
ones choices)
In my own opinion these rights are still NOT being upheld. We all know that our country has a lot of
problem especially in this rights (social and economic).

LESSON 3
ACTIVITY NO. 1(Read reference books and open links) Explore/Evaluate
IDENTIFY AND EXPLAIN THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE CONTEXT OF
HOW IT COULD BE THE BASIS IN FOSTERING PEACE AND UNDERSTANDING AMONG
HUMAN BEINGS.

The basic principles of human rights: Fundamental (A person's life and dignity would be useless and
meaningless if they did not have human rights.) Human rights are inalienable (Any free human being
cannot have their rights taken away from them.) Human right are imprescriptible (Human rights do
not deteriorate with the passage of time. Human rights do not apply if a person declines to assert them
or is prevented from doing so. Human rights are inextricably linked.) Human rights are universal
(From the time of birth, every human being is endowed with human rights, regardless of origin, sex,
race, creed, political color, status, or condition in life.) and Principle of equality (The fact that all
human beings, male or female, are born naked and helpless demonstrates this fundamental premise.)
If this principles been applied to our society peace will be upheld in every human being. We can
understand and respect their own life.

HOMEWORK ACTIVITY 1(For Lesson 1 and 2)

SELF EVALUATION REPORT ON PERSONAL EXPERIENCES OF THE STUDENTS ON HUMAN
RIGHTS HE/SHE UPHELD AS A STUDENT AND HOW IT WAS DONE; AND ON HOW HUMAN
RIGHTS HE/SHE ABUSED OR VIOLATED AS A STUDENT AND HOW IT WAS DONE; AND
WHAT WAS DONE TO RECTIFY THOSE ABUSES.
~As a student the right for education is still being upheld, it contributes to the full development of the
human personality and lifts marginalized groups out of poverty. As a student this is the majority to us that
we feel being violated to our rights as a student the right to express our own opinion. Yes its pandemic the
only way to educate us is to attend online class but we have different status in life. We just want a
consideration of our teacher to understand our reasons if didn’t take the exams or passed our activities.
We are not complaining because we know that you teachers sacrifice a lot of time for us and same with us
student. To rectify this, just hear us out and don’t mark us zero or give as a failed grades, we are trying
our best to adjust and learn. Please motivate us and give us the right to express our own opinion so we
won’t end up in mental breakdown that will lead to depression.

HOMEWORK ACTIVITY NO 2 (For Lesson 1 and 2)

BASED ON THE READING MADE ON THE SUBJECT PARTICULARLY LESSON 1 AND 2, IN NO
LESS THAN 300 WORDS, MAKE A REFLECTION PAPER IN ESSAY FORM ON “THE TEN
COMMON ABUSES AGAINST HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE PHILIPPINE CONTEXT UNDER
PRESENT DISPENSATION”.
~There are a lot of Human Rights abuses here in the Philippines, from our natural rights to our legal
rights. Starting from our Natural rights;
OUR RIGHT TO LIVE. We human being are gifted the life to live, but some abuses like abortion violates
it. Being killed for matters, like for example the extrajudicial killings to stop the use and produce of
illegal drugs. Denial of human rights.
OUR RIGHTS TO FREEDOM. Every human being has a freedom, but others take ones freedom to gain
profit from it. For example sex trafficking, child cybersex, slavery, and more.
OUR RIGHTS TO PROPERTIES. Forcibly evicting people from their homes (the right to adequate
housing).
FREE FROM DISCRIMINATION. Every human being should be free from discriminations. The
ramifications of human rights violations disproportionately affect those living in developing nations due
to compounding factors and difficulties why there are discrimination against race, gender, age, see, and
even in religion.
Now, Legal Rights.
POLITICAL RIGHTS. Political rights, which include the right to a fair trial and the right to vote, also fall
under this category. Civil and political rights are violated through genocide, torture, and arbitrary arrest.
Denying Someone the Right to Vote
ECONOMIC SOCIAL AND CULTURAL RIGHTS
Rights occurs when a State fails in its obligations to ensure that they are enjoyed without discrimination
or in its obligation to respect, protect and fulfil them. Forcible evictions. Terminating an employee
without cause. Deliberate poisoning of a water supply. Discrimination in access to medical care, work,
housing, education etc. Depriving children of adequate food and water. Failing to provide any primary
level education. Failing to provide basic health care facilities. Educational institutions in such poor
condition that they are a risk to safety. Housing in such poor condition that it is a risk to safety

LESSON 4
ACTIVITY NO. 1(Read Reference books and open links)
Explore/Evaluate
MAKE A PERSONAL EVALUATION/CRITIQUE ANCHORED ON THE LIMITATIONS OF
HUMAN RIGHTS “ON PRESIDENT DUTERTE’S WAR ON DRUGS AND HIS DEGREE OF
RECOGNITION, RESPECT AND ENFORCEMENT WITH RESPECT TO HUMAN RIGHTS”.

The limitations of human rights "ON PRESIDENT DUTERTE'S WAR ON DRUGS AND HIS
DEGREE OF RECOGNITION RESPECT AND ENFORCEMENT WITH RESPECT TO HUMAN
RIGHTS" is the EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLING. There are many people who oppose the daily crime
that takes place in our country that causes fear in our citizens, but with the increase in drug users and
traffickers, so many are dying without going through the proper process and imposition. Of adequate
punishment. It is also unavoidable that many feel innocent and are only accused of crimes involving
drugs.
ACTIVITY NO 2 (Read reference books and open links) Explore/Evaluate
BASED ON YOUR READING ON THE LIMITATIONS OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND ITS
ENFORCEMENT, MAKE A REPORT ON CRITIQUE ON CURRENTS EVENTS INVOLVING
HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTRIES;
A. PHILIPPINES
The government's "war on drugs" resulted in extrajudicial executions and other human rights
violations. Human rights advocates and political activists have been murdered, harassed, jailed,
and charged unfairly. The press was unnecessarily restricted, and hazardous anti-terror laws was
enacted. Several organizations have criticized the government's harsh response to the COVID-19
pandemic. President Duterte reiterated his request for the death penalty to be reinstated by
Congress.
B. USA
In United States of America wherein violation of human rights is visible. Let’s talk about the
recent violation that an American committed with a black American named George Floyd, he was
murdered by a white police man in Minnesota during an arrest after a store clerk suspected Floyd
may have used a counterfeit 20$ bill. Since he was not proven guilty, he’s human rights is still
violated by the Police officer. He was murdered to death without knowing the truth.

C. CHINA
The severe lack of worker's rights (particularly the hukou system, which restricts migrant
laborers' freedom of movement), the absence of labor unions independent of the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP), and allegations of discrimination against rural workers are among the
other issues raised in relation to human rights.
D. EUROPE
Human rights are usually respected throughout Europe. Nonetheless, there are a number of
human rights violations, ranging from the treatment of asylum seekers to police brutality.
Amnesty International's 2012 Annual Report highlights issues in a number of European countries.
Belarus, the only country in Europe with an authoritarian government, according to The
Economist, is one of the most accused.

SOURCES OF HUMAN RIGHTS ARE SIGNIFICANT IN PREVENTING ABUSES AND
VIOLATIONS THEREOF.

Various human rights sources is the United Nations international bill of rights that includes the
UDHR, ICCPR and the ICESCR. These sources of human rights is very significant as it prevents
abuses and violations towards other people's human rights. This human rights sources influence the
human rights of people so that we can be able to live freely and peacefully. All of us needed to be
treated with fair and just treatment. No one is above the law because in the eyes of law, we are all
equal even though you're poor or rich. This serve as the basis so that we cannot commit inhumane
acts towards people.

ACTIVITY NO 4 (Read reference books and open links) Explore/Evaluate

BASED ON YOUR READINGS PREPARE A SUMMATIVE REPORT OF THE RELEVANT
HUMAN RIGHTS PROVISIONS OF THE 1987 CONSTITUTION AND GIVE YOUR OWN
REFLECTION IF THESE PROVISIONS ARE BEING OBSERVED BY THE LAW ENFORCEMENT
AGENCIES OR BY THE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES CONCERNED.

Article XIII is all about the social justice and human rights, but we will focus in human rights.
During the period of martial law from 1972 to 1981, violation of human rights were rampant.
Opponents and critics of the regime and even innocent civilians were arrested and detailed by the
military without charges filed against them. Among the acts or cases attributed to the martial law
regime people were forced to vacate their homes and herder in a place against their will. Military
abuses were allegedly tolerated if not abetted by the government. Until now, it is claimed, there are still
