Rationale and
Description The ‘new normal” setup in education has brought a lot of
challenges for learners and teachers alike. However,
learners from households with no access to electricity
are suffering even more as this limits the learners’
capacity to practice his/her reading skills. Most learners
who belong to a low-income family tend to spend their
waking hours under the heat of the sun working manual
labor in order to help put food on the table. Only when
the sun is about to set, do they have the time to sit down
and read.

That is why, the San Isidro District Reading Program

wants to initiate the ‘PULIS KO, ILAW KO’ Advocacy
wherein a collaborative effort to help San Isidro District
learners whose households have no access to electricity-
powered lights can benefit. In this collaborative program
initiated by the MA. NARCISA S. GALLAZA, Secondary
District Reading Coordinator, the aim is to tap the San
Isidro PNP thru their RPSB Program wherein our police
force reaches out to the community by helping them live
a better life.

The program aims to gather 100 solar lamps for 100

households of identified learners among the elementary
and secondary schools in the district. This way, even our
learners who have no electricity can benefit from the
little light a solar-powered lamp can offer.

As stipulated in the DepEd Memorandum No. 048,

s.2021 2021 Brigada Eskwela Implementing Guidelines,
The Brigada Pagbasa will serve as a platform to
synergize efforts and resources to address education-
related challenges especially on literacy and numeracy.
It will also create opportunities for all stakeholders to
contribute possible solutions to the current gaps in the

country’s education system.

We hope that this joint advocacy of San Isidro PNP and

DepEd San Isidro District can bring ‘light’ to our learners.
