Effective listening strategies

In today’s high-speed world communication is more important


then ever, yet we seem to devote less and less time to really listening to one
another. Due to some barriers to listening we have to need some effective
strategies to listening.
1. Face the speaker and maintain Eye contact :
Being a good listener we must face the speaker and maintain a good
eye contact with him. Standard eye contact bound a good communication. If
the proper eye contact is not rolling in our communication that other person
lose concentration and then feel like neglected and lose his interest at the
speaker. Proper Eye contact provides communicative bounding between the
sender and receiver. It leads to successful communication.
2. Be attentive, but relaxed :
As a good listener the important thing is to be attentive. Paying
attention means processing the information that we listen and given a right
response. Paying attention is measured according to the right response we
give. Be present while listening to someone.
3. Keep an open mind :
We have to receive the new information with open mind for proper
communication. We should Listen without judging the other person or
mentally criticizing the things they tells us. We must listen without jumping to
conclusions.
4. Para phrasing :
Para phrasing is shorting or briefing the information we listen. In the
paraphrasing the continuity will not loose.
5. Listening to the words and try to picture :
We must allow our mind to create a mental model of the information
being communicated. Whether a literal picture, or an arrangement of abstract
concepts, our mind will do the necessary work if we stay focused. With senses
fully alert. When we listen for Long stretches, concentrate on, and remember
key words and phrases.
