Question 1:

Why do sociologists find it important to differentiate between sex and gender? What importance
does the differentiation have in modern society?

ANSWER: Sociologists find it important nowadays because of differentiate between sex and
gender because there is a very different between the two terms. A persons sex is determined by
his or her biology, does not always corresponds with his or her gender. The term sex and gender
are not similar or alike. Example, a baby girl who born with female genetalia will be identified as
a female. As she grows, she may identify with the feminine aspects of her culture. Since the term
sex refers to biological or physical distinctions, characteristics of sex will not vary significantly
betweens them different human societies. Generally, persons of the female sex, regardless of
culture, it is considered to menstrate and develop your shape of your body.

Question 2:

How is children’s play influenced by gender roles? Think back to your childhood. How
“gendered” were the toys and activities available to you? Do you remember gender expectations
being conveyed through the approval or disapproval of your playtime choices?

ANSWER:Gender roles are influenced by the media, family, environment, and society. When
your a very young child you don't know what toys you want so parents usually get you toys
based on your gender. Some parents also dissaprove your playtime choices when lets say a girl
decides to climb a tree they think that that's innaproiate for a girl but they are fine if a boy does
it. Some parents also don't approve of boys doing music or art as a child because the parents
think that they should do sports.
