WELCOME TO ENGLISH FOR ENGINEERS LEVEL III

THE ENVIRONMENT, OUR WORLD AND YOU

(The Environmental Minded Engineer - EME)

Welcome to English Level 3. It is a pleasure to share this learning

experience with you through a variety of activities centered in the topic:
THE ENVIRONMENT and the Environmental Minded Engineer (EME).

Since the ENVIRONMENT is our main TOPIC, learning English will be about
life in Planet Earth, how to keep it and what should we do to make life
more pleasant and comfortable while we are here. Surely, this will be
more meaningful if you look at it from your own perspective, your own
experience, your career and your surroundings.

The following information will give you a brief introduction to the course
methodology and procedure for working with class materials. Hope you
enjoy them and learn a lot from it.
This English class is full of activities and great ideas that will help you practice
English as you speak, write, read and listen.

METHODOLOGY.
HOMEWORKS AND CLASS ACTIVITIES
Every week you will receive a class Agenda with the
homework assignments/activities. You will come to
class during the scheduled time to start the
individual work in the Weekly Agenda.
The activities in the agenda will be corrected during
class. There will be a section of Questions and
Answer related to the activities proposed in the
agenda. Any doubts about language use and
comprehension will be done during the class.
1. THE WEEKLY AGENDA (WA)
I will give you instructions to do the class activities in the
Weekly Agenda. Most of the times, this Weekly Agenda will
have 3 to 5 activities for each ability: vocabulary, reading,
listening, writing and oral. Do the activities to practice and
improve your skills. These activities are not graded. The
activities will help you prepare for the exams taken during
class.
 Read the Weekly Agenda and develop the activities
proposed. The agendas are used to practice, learn
English and prepare for the Exams. So, try to do the
work in the Weekly Agendas, before coming to class or
during class.
 CORRECTIONS: When I correct your Weekly Agenda’s
activities in class or when I write corrections and
feedback in the exams, I want you to read the notes pay
attention to the corrections. Please, look at the tips I
write for you, and put them into practice.

Remember:
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, and PRACTICE.
IT IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO LEARN ENGLISH

CLASSWORK:

The work during class time will be divided in 2

parts: Individual Class work and Group work.
INDIVIDUAL CLASS WORK: (30 minutes of class)
During this time, you will read the Weekly Agenda
and work in the activities proposed. During this
time, I will be connected in Zoom classroom to
explain the activities and answer any questions
about the activities.
Also, during this time, I will call you to talk to you. I
will interview you or ask you questions about any of
the activities in the agenda. This section will be
called: LET’S CHAT. If you feel your English is not
very good, this is a good time to practice and
improve, only speaking with me. (We can use Skype,
WhatsApp, or Hangout to talk during this time)
GROUP CLASS WORK:
During this time we will correct all the assignments
(tareas), do the readings, and share some of the
written activities. We will also develop some
additional tasks or simply practice while
speaking/chatting with me and your classmates.
We will also use this part of the class to prepare and
practice before the exams. The idea is to practice
and use English all the time in different scenarios
and situations.
CLASS INTERACTION:
 YOU ARE EXPECTED TO ONLY SPEAK
ENGLISH IN THIS CLASS
I will start the class giving instructions about
the agenda of the day.
You will be expected to start doing your
work, or complete the work from previous
classes.
 You need to come to class every day. If you
DO NOT COME TO CLASS, you are expected
to do the activities proposed in the Weekly
Agenda for that week, and watch the
recorded class in Zoom.

Remember, you are expected to ALWAYS Speak and

write in ENGLISH in this class. You will not only
interact with me in English. Please talk and write to
your classmates in English while in class.
There will be times where you will be asked to
communicate with other classmates via Skype or
telephone, try to talk to them in English. Even if I
am not in class, you are encouraged to speak
English with your classmates.
Sometimes, I will ask you to meet with other
classmates and do some work, then report it to the
class. All this work should be done in English.
ALWAYS USE ENGLISH IN THIS CLASS.
My best advice: do not write in Spanish and
translate into English. That is not a good learning
practice.
