DEFINITION
- A code of ethics is formal statement
of a group’s ideals and values.
- Code of Ethics are systematic guides
for developing ethical behavior.
- Ethical codes are systemic guidelines
for shaping ethical behavior that
answer the normative questions of
what beliefs and values should be
morally accepted. It is a formal
statement of a group’s ideals and
values.
- They answered normative questions
of what beliefs and value is morally
accepted it should be noted however,
that no code could possibly provide
absolute or complete rules that are
free from conflict and ambiguity.
AMENDED CODE OF
ETHICS FOR NURSES
Pursuant to Section 3 of RA No. 877, known
as the Philippine Nursing Law, and section 6
of Presidential Decree No. 223, the amended
Code of Ethics for Nurses recommended and
endorsed by the Philippine Nurses
Association was adopted to govern the
practice of nursing in the Philippines.
PURPOSES:
 Set standards for the behaviors of the
nurse and provide general guidelines
for nursing action. – Ever since the
time Florence Nightingale , there set
of standard establish in order for the
nurse to be guided the way we talk of
our patient , there’s certain standards
or set of standards on how we do or

will serve as general guide of nurses
as to how they will conduct himself
during the course of implementing
their actual nursing care to client

certain that nurses will always
respect and protect theirs rights of
the clients and patients.
ARTICLE 1
PREAMBLE
Sec. 1. Health is a fundamental right of
every individual. The Filipino registered
nurse believing in the worth and dignity
of each human being, recognizes the
primary responsibility to preserve health
at all cost. This responsibility
encompasses promotion of health,
prevention of illness, alleviation of
suffering, and restoration of health.
However, when the foregoing are not
possible, assistance towards a peaceful
death shall be his/her obligation.

REGISTERED NURSES
must:

REGISTERED NURSES AND
PRACTICE:

commission, fee or emolument for
recommending or referring a patient to

nursing care.

their property, residence or workplace.

something for the good and welfare of
the patient and if you have personal
dispute with medical tech. in that
hospital you are in then you have
collaborative relationship between
 certain medical tech. then you need to
work professionally and collaborate

Sec. 13 Guidelines to be
observed:
Registered Nurses must:
 Maintain their professional role/identity
while working with other members of
the health team. [a nurse should work a
nurse if his role in institution like for
example prepare material for surgical
operation she should be doing her role
like for example if her job is to prepare
operative site, positioning the patient in
operative table or preparing or checking
needed sterile material for surgical
operation. She shouldn’t do the job of
the janitor like mapping the floor when

will bring discredit to a colleague and to

Registered Nurses, Society,
and Environment
Ethical Principles
 The preservation of life, respect for
human rights, and promotion of
healthy environment shall be a
commitment of a Registered Nurse.

citizens and, as such, be involved in
community concerns.
 Be equipped with knowledge of health
resources within the community, and
take roles in primary health care.

Registered Nurses and the
Profession
ETHICAL PRINCIPLES
 Maintenance of loyalty to the nursing
profession and preservation of its
integrity are ideal.
 Compliance with the by-laws of the
accredited professional organization
(PNA), and other professional
organizations of which the Registered
Nurse is a member is a lofty duty. [so
nurses supposed to be preserving the
integrity and ideals professional nurse,
nurses should be always aware of their
action in the society or community]
 Commitment to continual learning and
active participation in the development
and growth of the profession are
commendable obligations.
 Contribution to the improvement of the
socio-economic conditions and general
welfare of nurses through appropriate
legislation is a practice and a visionary
mission. [Nurses required by law in the
Philippines to acquire certain numbers of
units in order for them to renew their
licenses so every 3 years a RN must
renew her PRC license and before she
can renew it she should acquire number
of CPD units or continuing education
units for her to be able renew her license
, her CPD units may be acquired from
the seminar and masteral unit that she
had attended, that’s mean dear level 2
student that you were graduate you will
not stop learning. ]

Registered Nurses must
 Be members of the Accredited
Professional Organization (PNA);
 Strictly adhere to the nursing standards;
 Participate actively in the growth and
development of the nursing profession.
 Strive to secure equitable socio-
economic and work conditions in
nursing through appropriate legislation
and other means.
 Assert for the implementation of labor
and work standards.
When you graduate and pass the board exams
it would not mean that you will stop learning
and studying you will still need to acquire the
necessary continuing education units for the
renewal of your licences section 17 of Article
6 the guidelines to be observed registered
nurses must be a member or be members of
the credit that professional organisation which
is the Philippine nurses association they
should strictly adhere to the nursing standards
and participate actively in the growth and
development of the nursing profession so the
