Intro & Data LAB W5 AIR PAERTICLE
Different location contains different air particulate within the area. Air particles are tiny
subdivisions of solid matter suspended in a gas or liquid. Sources of air particulate matter can
be natural or manmade. Large amount of air particles in the environment is the main cause of
air pollution which can bring various implications such as health problem and reduce
visibility. In contrast, aerosol refers to particles and/or liquid droplets and the gas together.
OBJECTIVES
PROCEDURE
1. The AC adaptor provided with the unit was plugged into a 120V/60Hz wall outlet.
2. The DC1100 was connected to the AC adaptor and the ON/OFF switch was pressed to
turn on the DC1100.
3. After the unit was turned on, the continuous mode was displayed with the current
level of particulate pollution for both small and large particles.
4. Dynamic bar graph also displayed which will give the user an immediate visual
indicator of the number and size of the particles that being detected.
5. Next, the MODE button was pressed to switch the DC1100 into monitor mode which
means it will record the air particle every 1 minute.
6. The DC1100 was left at the selected location from 8am to 8pm.
7. The MODE button was pressed to history mode where the history of recorded data for
every 1 minute being kept.
8. The SELECT button was pressed to display the history of recorded data for every 1
minute.
9. The MODE button was pressed again to history mode where the history of recorded
data for every 1 hour being kept.
10. The SELECT button was pressed to display the history of recorded data for every 1
hour.
11. Large particle concentration was displayed on the right side of the screen while small
particle concentration was displayed on the left side.
12. The hourly data obtained was tabulated in Table 1.0 for location 1.
13. The whole procedure (steps 1-12) was repeated for location 2.
