Introduction

The Bayanihan is a Filipino custom of community, where every town gathers together to
celebrate together. The term bayanihan literally means "being in the bayan" 。It refers to the spirit of
community unity, work and cooperation to achieve specific goals. The concept of Bayanihan is traced
back to in a country’s tradition which can be observed in rural areas, wherein the town’s people were
asked especially the men to lend a hand to a family who will move into a new place. The relocation does
not only involves moving the family’s personal belongings but most importantly it concerns the transfer
of the family’s entire house to a new location. A traditional Filipino house (Bahay Kubo) is made of
indigenous materials such as bamboo and nipa/anahaw leaves.

Describe

Bayanihan has been a favorite subject of many artists. The painting mainly focuses on the
people who give a helping hand to carry a traditional house. The people are wearing Kamisa de chino
and baro at saya which ensembles the folk costumes of the Philippines. The main colors of the paintings
are yellow, yellow-green, green and white. The color of the house is golden brown. The background is
color white and blue which represents the sky, there's a tree beside the house that gives a nature vibe
and so the painting doesn’t seem so borjng. The painting is saturated with yellow color.

Analyze

The artist used bright or vibrant colors which gives the impression of the happy spirit and warm
welcome of the people. The color of the grass is rather brighter and that it gives a a joyful impression.
The people are saturated yellow color which conveys it's enthusiasm and benevolent behavior. The
texture and color of the background is soft and dreamy, it uses darker shade to emphasize the bright
color of the main focused of the painting.

Interpretation

I believe that the artist wanted the audience to feel the amazing trait of Filipinos. The bayanihan
trait, the typical power of community individuals coming together to attain what an person cannot has
too driven to an extended utilize of the term to speak to broader ideas of civic solidarity and
collectivism. Expecting that a program surrounded by ideas of civic solidarity would unavoidably look for
to advance a bound together social personality. The power of unity and connectedness of the people.

Judge

The artist wants to manifest or convey the characteristics of the people in the painting.
The feeling of warmth, amicable and togetherness of one another. The painting gives concise meaning,
the audience can easily understand what the artist wants to say. Through it's vibrant colors you can
figure out the impression and emotion it relays. I believe that it is a great painting to promotes and
present the traits and attribute of the Filipinos.
