Many of the competencies outlined in this section required the use of knowledge taught
in this class, as well as the skills needed to research in order to assess needs. What I really wasn’t
sure about in competency was management skill, and expanding the knowledge in order to
Many of the objectives for this section required skills that took you out of the research
and into communication, to plan everything out and collaborate. These are all skills that I have
not had experience with, and will need to work on for this job. Although we have had several
opportunities in the class to use the theories and strategies learned in class and place it into real
life (in the discussion board posts), I have not had the opportunity otherwise to use that particular
skill.
The section seemed a little vague regarding the step by step process, because it falls
somewhere between planning strategies out and their execution. What I did see that I would need
to work on would be training staff members and volunteers. I would also need to know more
This was the most familiar to me, because the intended career has an outlook of research,
and has a setting of setting out plans and strategies to conduct the tests. The basis is that this area
is focused on the follow through of our planning out in the assessment process, to monitor and
achieve results of some kind. Although I am more familiar with this, I don’t have experience and
I would need more experience regarding the first sub competencies, regarding finance.
Management and communication would be a big one, I wouldn’t know where to start on my
own, I could potentially ask for help from an accountant, or at least another health specialist
The second and third sub competencies are ones where training is involved and providing
expert advice and consultation. A way to enhance that is to start out by being in training under
another specialist and build myself in knowledge and experience to a higher level so that I can
Area VII: Communicate, Promote, and Advocate for Health, Health Education/Promotion, and
the Profession
Being an influence to the media and through advocacy is something I’m familiar with. In
this age anyone can put out information to others, that isn’t so difficult. I would need more
learning when it comes to policies and health systems, and that is something that one can learn
