170. BOXING/PACKING/MARKING

170.1 General

Preservation and packaging will be such that parts, components and/or equipment are not damaged by
corrosion or by any other cause if not put in service immediately.

Thread connections shall be properly cleaned and thoroughly coated with an environmentally
approved (i.e. "Green") thread storage compound.

All threads shall be protected with adequate thread protectors. The material and type of protector
used for premium threads (i.e. VAM, Hydril, etc.) shall comply with industry publication IADC/SPE
17209 (Titled: Performance Evaluation of Commercially Available Thread Protectors) such as
WEBCO Mark III, SIGMA Thredgard EHD (both marketed through TubeTec), Weatherford WL1901
and Drilltec, or any other approved by the principle.

Boxes containing parts, components and/or equipment shall be marked in accordance with the
purchase order requirements.

Two separate packing lists for all parts, components and/or equipment in the boxes/crates must be
placed in weatherproof envelopes. One packing list shall be securely fastened to the box/crate near
the purchase order markings. The other packing list shall be secured to the parts, components and/or
equipment. In situations where a small box/crate is placed inside a large box/crate, both boxes/crates
shall have packing lists attached.

When MESC numbers are specified in the purchase order, these numbers shall be referenced on the
packing lists.

170.2 Critical Service (H2S, CO2, Low Temperature)

The boxing, crating and/or packing of all equipment, except Oil Country Tubulars (i.e. casing and
tubing), to be used in H2S, CO2, low temperature or in any other critical service shall be carried out at
the manufacturer's plant unless specified otherwise in the purchase order. The manufacturer is
responsible for the proper boxing, crating and packing of the equipment.

All equipment (including the individual parts and components) shall be secured and separately boxed,
crated or packed in order to avoid any possible damage during transit. The parts and components of
the equipment and the equipment itself shall be tagged with "H2S", "CO2" or "LOW TEMP" or be
identified by some other methods indicating that it is suitable for one or all of those services.

Permanent identification marks on equipment (including its parts and components) to be used in H2S
service only, shall be made by low-stress dot stamping and/or vibratory pencil etching. Any other
permanent identification method shall have to be approved by the purchaser. The location of the
identification marks shall be in a low-stress area of the equipment considered non critical by the
manufacturer.

The location of permanent identification marks on and the method of identification for equipment used
in CO2, low temperature and other critical service shall be negotiated between the manufacturer and
the purchaser.
