1. Prepositional phrases
A prepositional phrase is comprised of a preposition immediately followed by a
noun, pronoun, noun phrase, pronoun phrase, or noun clause.
Eg1: My mother is very happy with my work
Eg2: I am perfectly content on my own
Eg3: We were shocked by the news
2. To-infinitive phrases
Infinitive phrases are the infinitive form of a verb plus any complements and
modifiers.
Eg1: They felt relieved to return home.
Eg2: I am very happy to meet you
Eg3: The boy is scared to see his results
3.Ing-participle clauses:
A participle clause is a dependent clause which uses a participle form of a verb.
Eg1: She is busy doing her housework
Eg2: This movie is not worth seeing
4. A that clause
Eg1: He was disappointed that she quit the team
Eg2: Mom was so happy that they finally got married.
5. A whether/if/wh-clause
Eg1: The boss is certain who will lead the next project
Eg2: We were a little curious why they decided to leave.
Eg3: We were shocked when she came back to our team
