SW8 Hypothesis Testing - Due Nov 29, 2021 11:59 PM

FirstSem2021 - 4067 - EDA 1CE | Engineering Data Analysis

Use the traditional method of hypotheses testing (Steps 1 to 5) in solving the following problems. Compile screenshots of your
solution in a single pdf file.

Part I.

Exercise 8-2 No. 1

Exercise 8-3 No. 5
Exercise 8-4 No. 5
Exercise 8-5 No. 5
Exercise 8-6 No. 1

Part II.

1. Random samples showed that 40 executives in the insurance industry claimed on the average 9.4 business lunches as
deductible expenses, while 50 bank executives claimed on the average 7.9 business lunches as deductible expenses. If, on the
basis of collateral information, it can be assumed that σ1  = σ2  = 3.0 for such data, test at the 0.05 level of significance
whether the difference between these two sample means is significant.

2. In a study of the effectiveness of physical exercise in weight reduction, a random sample of 10 persons engaged in a
prescribed program of physical exercise for one month were as follows:

Test at the 0.01 level of significance whether the program of physical exercise is effective in reducing weight.

3. In Cleveland, a sample of 73 mail carriers showed that 10 had been bitten by an animal during one week. In Philadelphia, in a
sample of 80 mail carriers, 16 had received animal bites. Is there a significant difference in the proportions? Use a 0.05. Find
the 95% confidence interval for the difference of the two proportions.

4. Two different lighting techniques are compared by measuring the intensity of light at selected locations by both methods. If
n1 = 12 measurements of the first technique have the standard deviation s1 = 2.6 foot-candles, n2 = 16  measurements of the
second technique have the standard deviation s2 = 4.4 foot-candles, and it can be assumed that both samples may be regarded
as independent random samples from normal populations, test at the 0.05 level of significance to test whether there is any
evidence that the standard deviations of the two populations sampled are not equal.
