CONFLICTS IN DRAMA.

Conflict is disagreement, Interruption or problem. Conflict is essential to plot. Conflict gives story
meaning and motivation. Conflict is a regular art of our every day lives. Aside from conflict in literature
we see conflict on news, movies, and reality TV. We experience our own conflict on the road, school, in
the workplace. Conflict is everywhere and most of us are on a mission to resolve our conflict. And so do
the character in novel, short stories, and various other narratives. The major problem in a story are
internal and external conflict.

- Internal conflict is when a character struggles with their own opposing desires or beliefs. It happens
within them, and it drives their development as a character. Internal conflict also called man vs. self-is a
battle inside a character, with internal conflicts, you might feel a clash between competing desires.
Internal conflict is within the character mind. Internal conflict can be described as a struggle between
opposing forces of desire or emotions within a person.

Internal conflict examples in literature: Conflict is used to bring a story to life. Internal conflict happens
when a character struggles with something within themselves. These two contracting wants, need or
desires help to build a character. Explore several famous examples of man vs. self and how it differs
from external conflict.

- Internal conflict happens internally or in the mind of character. Internal conflict is within the
character mind. Internal conflict can be described as a struggle between opposing forces on desire
emotion within a person. Type of internal conflict include:

Person vs self : if a character needs to think about what decision to make , whether it be
between right or wrong, or just two decision that is internal conflict. The character struggles to
overcome a fear, perhaps an addiction, emotional issues or personal crossroads in life. Internal
conflict can include troubles with decision making, personality traits, spirituality or disabilities.

External conflict is a conflict between a character and an outside force. External conflict is happens
outside of a character. Types of external conflict include:

- Person vs person

- Person vs society

- Person vs nature

- Person vs religion

-Man vs man or person vs person ( External ) the leading character struggles physically and/or mentally
with another. The conflict can include ideas, practices, or customs. Person vs person is the classic is
showdown between the protagonist, the character who tries to bring about his downfall. Throughout
the story, the two characters attempt to outsmart, outdo and outfox each other, resulting in momentary
victories for them both. By the conclusion, though, one must emerge from the battle as winner.

- Man vs nature ( external) against forces of nature. Can include natural disasters, weather, an
aggressive animals, illness or environmental issues. Ex, Tsunami in japan.
- Man vs society (external) when character struggles again social beliefs, tradition, ways of life, occur
when a character goes against the norms or tradition of society. In Many stories, the protagonist battles
an unjust form of government, culture, possibly a holiday or any society based group.

- External conflict sets a character against something or someone beyond their control. In an external
conflict a character may be struggling against another character, the natural world, or society. External
conflict is defined in contrast to internal conflict, in which the struggle is between a character and
themselves for example, between selfish and selfless impulses. External conflict is a conflict between a
character and an outside force.
