Đề 1: Describe your hometown.

You should say:

- Where it is

- What you can see and do there

- How it has changed since you was a child

- Why you love it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was Bao Phuc - my small village in
a town on the outskirts of Hanoi.

To be specific, it’s located in the far south of the city. This small, tranquil and picturesque
village is typical for the outdoors in Vietnam with winding alleys, paddy fields and rivers. I
still vividly remember as a child during summertime, I used to participate in various outdoor
activities with my friends such as playing football, fishing and swimming. At night, we even sat
on the rooftop to admire the beauty of the sky with billions of shining stars.

My hometown is becoming more and more vibrant as time goes by. It used to be very dull and
seemed to fall behind with development, but now, everything has changed. It’s got a new lease
of life with a great economic situation with an increasing number of factories and chain stores
and a developed education system with many schools springing up over the years.

I love my hometown from the bottom of my heart. It’s where I was born and raised and where
my loved ones settle. Whenever I want to temporarily get out of the rat race, I get back to my
hometown to see my parents and friends. It’s an excellent way to alleviate stress. The people
there are so warm-hearted and amiable and they give me a great sense of community that I
can hardly find in my current residential area where neighbours see each other as strangers.

Đề 2: Describe a public facility that was newly built in your area.

You should say:

- What it is
- Where and when it was built
- What it was built for
- How important it is after being built
I live in a beautiful sprawling city in which all the basic and modern amenities are available.
My city has also gone through a number of changes and some new facilities are also added. Last
year, a new movie theater was built and with a couch potato like me, it was such a great
development that I would like to share with you today.
This theater was constructed right in the heart of the city where it would be easy for every age
group to commute there in a hassle-free way.
On a weekly basis, some of the activities that represent art are usually organised, including live
music concerts or dance shows, drama and so forth. The facility of scrumptious/delicious
cuisines and beverages are always available that act as a feather in the cap. Another facility
making the experience of catching the latest film on a big screen become more fascinating is
that the sitting arrangement is in apple-pie order which can accommodate a large number of
individuals.
I believe providing these recreational facilities would help people to get an escape from the
hassle of the world and to de-stress themselves. Moreover, it would also provide an amazing
chance for people to spend some quality time with each other along with enjoying some
delicious cuisines.
All in all, this newly-built movie theater is essential to help people to get a break from the
monotony.

Đề 3: Describe a public facility that needs improving.

You should say:

- What the place is

- When you visit the place
- What the place looks like
- How it can be improved

I would like to talk about a public place that I think needs improvement. Among the most
popular public places where people can socialise and hang out with each other is ABC, an
amusement park in XYZ city, considered a green oasis located in District 11.

Last month, I decided to take my nieces and nephews there. The park is comprised of many
areas including a roller coaster which, to my surprise, the children eagerly rode. Time just flew
by with the kids.

We liked everything about the park except the fact that people were throwing empty water
bottles here and there. I felt there should be more bins. Well, to tell the truth, the park is rather
old. Sometimes my parents took me there in my childhood. However, the park was a lot
different from what I could remember. Some facilities at its far end were covered in moss and
overgrown weeds. The crumbling walls gave the impression that the area had been abandoned
for ages. One day, to our terror, we found some used needles laying amidst the greenery,
invisible and able to pierce the common light-weight shoes the children wear.

I would say that the city authority should encourage local people or voluntary groups to tidy up
the park and hire more care-takers to make it a safer and more attractive playground for
children. Also, a certain amount of money is needed to install new restrooms and other safety-
oriented upgrades like street lighting or warning signs.

Đề 4: Describe a sky you would like to see.
You should say:
- Where it is
- Who you would like to see it with
- What you would like to see

- Why you would like to see it

Living in the metropolitan area, I rarely get the chance to see a night full of stars because we
are having serious visual pollution, in which lights never stop shining, buildings seem to be
taller and the sky in the city is usually covered with smoke and billboards. So it is definitely a
yes from me if I can see a clear sky with hundreds or thousands of stars at night. I suppose this
could only happen at night, in the countryside or by a seashore.
It would also be a very romantic scene if my lover and my family are there, enjoying the
tranquility and peacefulness while sharing our wisdom, wishes and blessings.
The stars don’t have to be too bright to outshine the moon or disturb the night sky; they just
have to be there silently to enjoy the harmony of all beings. Under that sky, everything would
seem to slow down, I don’t have to worry about anything.

All the rushes, fears, anger and depression can disappear. I would feel like the moon, the stars
and the whole sky are sharing the same breathing rhythm with me. A getaway under that sky
has always been my dream.

Đề 5: Describe a job you’d like to do in the future.

You should say:

- what it is

- what you will need to do

- how demanding it is

- why you are interested in this job

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was to become an interpreter.

An interpreter is someone who has acquired an oral fluency in another language apart from his
mother tongue. His mission is to convert spoken language from one language to another to help
people from different countries communicate with one another.

It entails listening to, understanding and memorising content in the source language, then
reproducing it in the target language. Sometimes, an interpreter has to cope with stress and take
his self-control when dealing with difficult speakers. Not everyone speaks with precision and
clarity and of course, accents can be tricky to discern. Interpreters, therefore, need to keep
their cool and remain relaxed, even in seemingly tough situations. I think the job would be very
technically demanding and challenging, but very exhilarating to do.

The reason I have a particular liking for this job is that I think I have developed essential skills
to do it well. I study the English language at university and to be specific, my major is
translation and interpreting. Despite the fact that I have yet to be fluent in English, I think I will
be in the next few years as I keep practicing the language and improving myself in other fields
to broaden my horizons. On top of that, it may give me opportunities to travel or to work in a
multi-national company where I will meet new people from all over the world, and learn about
their cultures and experiences.

the world, and learn about their cultures and experiences.

However, I don’t have a particular liking for it. My teacher at university is an interpreter and he
told us that the occupation was so nerve-racking. Sometimes, an interpreter has to cope with
stress and take his self-control when dealing with difficult speakers. Not everyone speaks with
precision and clarity and of course, accents can be tricky to discern. Interpreters, therefore,
need to keep their cool and remain relaxed, even in seemingly tough situations. Besides, a good
interpreter has to obtain insights into many different fields like law, business, medicine,
engineering, you name it. I think the job would be so technically demanding and challenging
that I can hardly do it successfully.

Đề 7: Describe someone you would like to work or study with.

You should say:

- Who he/ she is

- When you work/ study together

- What you often do together

- Why you like to work with him/her

I would like to talk about one of the colleagues who I really enjoy working with. His name is
Duy. I have been working with him for 2 years and during this time I have always found him to
be very talented, focused and deadline-oriented co-worker. With him, all of my assignments
and tasks were completed with perfect harmony and time.

Although we don’t work in the same office, we are often assigned to the same project, and we
have a whale of a time together.

In the office, we mostly spend our time like two good colleagues and besides this, he has
become a good friend of mine. We often go to the lake which is near our company to have some
fresh air, we go to a restaurant to have our lunch and sometimes we have some meet-ups. In the
office, we often discuss the tasks and share our opinion on how to solve an emerging issue.

I like to work with him mostly because of his professionalism and talent. He is a very good
problem solver and always shows a professional and positive attitude to address a solution. He
is a good team member and can work really hard to solve a problem. Apart from those qualities,
he is a good listener and knows when to talk and when to remain silent. These are some great
and exemplary qualities someone would seek from a team member and because of all these good
qualities I enjoy working with him.

Đề 8: Describe a job that was done by your grandparents.

You should say:

- What it was

- Where he or she got the job

- How long he or she had this job

- Why he or she chose this job

I actually look up to my grandparent, since they are able to stay calm no matter what
happens. And I believe that awesome attitude towards the life they have roots from the job
as teachers that they have.

They’ve been devoting their whole life to teaching. While my grandpa is a maths teacher,
my grandma started her career in literature. They not only share their passion for teaching,
but also fall head over heels for each other because they work at the same school.

To be honest, it must be really challenging if you are a student of them. They are really strict
and they expect their students to try their best toward goals. The main purpose and
techniques of their pedagogic philosophy are not high grades in classes and good shows in
lessons, but more about the development of personalities and morality.

I have met some of my grandparents’ students in Lunar New Year festivals and Teachers’
Day, they are enthusiastic. And they told me they were proud to have my grandparents as
teachers, and also said that they could not become that successful without the years of
studying with my grandparents.

I, myself, also take pride in the achievement that my grandparents had, and feel so lucky to
be their grandchild.

Đề 9: Describe your favourite subject.
You should say:

- What it is

- Who teaches it

- How it is taught/ how you learn it

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was English.

Maybe you don’t know but English used to be my pet hate in former days. The education
system in Vietnam is somewhat impractical. It focuses on an exam-driven curriculum in which
we studied English by learning by heart monotonous grammar and vocabulary in school.
We’re not taught listening and speaking so it’s no wonder that I couldn’t speak a word of
English when graduating from high school.

But everything has changed since I started my higher education. I am majoring in the English
language, so I’ve got to study in English-speaking classes. At first, it was a nightmare when I
couldn’t grasp what my teachers and friends said. But it turns out that the environment has
boosted my English skills so greatly. Through practice, I’ve gained a certain level of
competence in English. I even participated in a local tour guide club in which I had
opportunities to meet foreigners, practice English with them and discover more about their
countries. They are such exhilarating experiences.

I have gradually built up confidence in speaking English and take a keen interest in having
idle chit-chat with foreigners. At school, there is this one subject called “Cultures and
Civilisations” in which we learned a lot about the cultures and traditions of English-speaking
countries like the UK, the US or Australia. Such a subject really broadened my horizons. All in
all, I never regret choosing English as my major at university.

Đề 10: Describe a subject which you disliked before but now you think it is important.

You should say:

- What the subject is

- Why you disliked it
- Why you think it is important now
- Explain why you changed your mind

Well I have to say that even though now I am sitting the IELTS, which is an English proficiency
examination, this test was beyond my reach three months ago due to my negligence of this
language for quite a long time. So, the subject that I want to talk about is English, which is
becoming increasingly crucial in today’s context.

Since I was a primary schooler, I have always been specializing in natural science subjects,
which translated to a lack of attention to liberal arts like literature, history and especially
English though I had a chance to get quite an early exposure to it. Furthermore, I did not have
a knack for learning foreign languages I think and partly because this subject sometimes was
the reason for me being graded down, which made me to gradually felt an antipathy towards
this subject.

However, my mind was changed when I was enlightened by my boss about the importance of
English recently. The company where I am working has annual evaluation periods when each
staff is assessed for pay rises or promotions, and an English competency was of course one of
the criteria. Unfortunately, I was turned down for both just because of my inability to use
English.

Thanks to that failure, I recognized that English is of the essence, and I was refusing my chances
to succeed if I continued to remain indifferent to English. Motivated by this timely recognition,
I enrolled in an English course immediately and until now, I have been always doing my
utmost to master this language for a brighter future.

Đề 11: Describe your favourite teacher.

You should say:

- Who he/ she is

- What subject he/she teaches
- How he/ she is
- Why you like him/ her

When I read the cue card, the first one springing to mind was Mr. Thanh - my extraordinary
English teacher.

I first came to know him a couple of years back when I started going to high school. At first,
his appearance gave us the wrong impression. He didn’t smile. His serious face and tidy dress-
up seemed to tell us that he was an extremely strict teacher. Well, I couldn’t agree more with the
saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”. He turned out to be a very easy-going and amiable
person.

His competence in English is undisputed. He had a unique way of teaching. Every example he
made was related to real situations. For instance, he made the sentence “Annie (my name) is
sleeping like a log in the class” to illustrate the phrase “sleep like a log” and to awaken me at the
same time. Thus he could make the lesson far more exhilarating and we could remember what
he taught with ease.

He never made things complicated and was willing to explain the lessons to us over and over
again. I’ve never met such a patient teacher like him.

He has a huge impact on my education. It’s he that aroused my passion for English. Back in
secondary school, English used to be my pet hate. But his teaching and influences changed my
way of thinking about English and it was beginning to grow on me. I even majored in the
English language at university.

Đề 12: Describe a teacher who inspired you.

You should say:

- Who he/ she is

- How you knew him/ her
- How impressive he/ she was
- How he/ she inspired you
I am going to talk about a woman who I have met before who has had a great influence on me.
She is Ms. Ngoc Diep, my English teacher at Ha Noi University.

I met her in a seminar held by my school when I was a freshman at college. On that day she was
a speaker sharing her experiences and tips in order to be successful in English learning.

At this seminar, in addition to asking for pieces of advice in learning English, I asked her about
her real-life experiences, since I was extremely keen to know how she had become a successful
career woman and how much effort she has had to make to achieve her success. She was very
friendly and approachable, far more than I expected, in fact. She was willing to share her ideas
and answer all my questions. I felt that she really wanted to inspire me by her example.

She must be one of the most energetic, inspirational speakers I have ever met so far. Now I have
sufficient confidence to overcome all obstacles and reach my goal. She is really a role model
for me and the young generation to look up to, and that’s why I want to know more about her.
And so I think I will continue to follow her lectures in the future.

Đề 13: Describe a school you went to in your childhood.

You should say:

- Where it was

- What it was like

- What you learned there

- How you felt about it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was Bao Phuc secondary school to
which I went in former days. To the best of my recollection, it was situated right in the middle
of my village, and was in the proximity of my house. So it only took 10 minutes for me to get
to school on foot.

The school dates back to the late 70s and my parents actually used to be the students there.
Back in the days when I was studying at elementary school, I had always dreamt of gaining
admission to Bao Phuc secondary school because of the excellent reputation for its high-
quality education. Fortunately, I did it.

The school’s signature colour is yellow, which really made it stand out from its surroundings.
The facilities are top-notch. It’s one of the first schools in the region to install an air-
conditioning system and modern overhead projectors. The teachers are all knowledgeable and
supportive. Therefore, it’s no wonder that admission remains extremely competitive.

I still vividly remember my homeroom teacher - Ms. Loan and my two best friends there - Trang
and Phượng. At that time, I was painfully shy and reserved and it was they who integrated me
into the class, making me part of it. Now we still keep in touch with one another. On the annual
National Teachers’ Day, we gather together in the school and revive the memories of the good
old days.

Đề 14: Describe a mathematical skill that you learned at primary school.

You should say:

- What the skill was

- How you learned it

- How useful you find it

- How it will be beneficial for you in future

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was “multiplication tables”. In
Vietnam, we learn the tables for the numbers 1 to 9, but I know that in many other parts of the
world, people even learn the tables for the numbers 1 to 12 or even to 20.

I vividly remember first coming to know these tables in the second year of elementary school,
when I was probably 7 years old. To the best of my recollection, we started with the number 2,
multiplying it by each of the numbers from 1 to 10. In the class, we went through the tables
speaking aloud 2 times 1 is 2, 2 times 2 is 4, and such like. The way we read the calculations
was like the way we sang a flowing melody. The experiences were really exhilarating.

At that time, I didn’t have a clue why we had to work our way through the tables by rote
learning and memorization. Also, I didn’t really understand the calculations. I fancied reading
them out loud with my friends because it’s funny but honestly, I did think this learning method
was impractical.

But it turns out that it really comes in handy. It’s useful to be able to do quick calculations
without having to think in case I have to do daily tasks like working out bills or managing my
money. I realise the importance of a basic grounding in Maths in general and of having the basic
multiplication tables ingrained in my mind.

Đề 15: Describe a science subject that you studied and liked.

You should say:

- What it was

- Who the teacher was

- How you could use it in life

- Why you liked it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was Physics. It was a mandatory
subject in secondary school and I was instantly impressed by such a great subject in the very
first lesson. It basically involved both theoretical lessons and practical ones. We studied theories
in the classroom and then carried out experiments in the laboratory.

I still vividly remember our Physics teacher - Mrs Thanh - a patient, understanding and
knowledgeable teacher. Her competence in teaching Physics was undisputed and her unique
teaching method made learning the subject a piece of cake.

Learning Physics, I’ve gained an insight into some aspects of science. I realized that everything
happened for a reason. Thanks to Physics, I could explain some common phenomena, such as
the formation of a storm or why lightning always comes before the advent of a thunder’s sound.

Physics develops my logical thinking. I have always been conscious of the consequences of an
action. For instance, when I have to be faced with a dilemma such as choosing the right
university, I think twice and take account of all the criteria like school prestige, facilities,
majors and my strengths and weaknesses before making up my mind.

You may think it has nothing to do with Physics but to me, it’s the outcome of learning Physics
by which I have my logical thinking sharpened. That’s why I like Physics a great deal.

You should say:

- Who the person is

- How the person is

- What you usually do together

- Why you admire him/ her

When I read the cue card, the first one springing to mind was my mother. She has been a major
influence in my life.

My mother has always been a good role model for me to follow. She's industrious, patient and
understanding; she's also got a good sense of humour and seems to get along with everybody.
Fortunately, I've inherited some of these character traits.

I think she brought up me and my siblings well; she was quite strict but always fair. Despite the
fact that I am the youngest child in the family, she never pampers me. Besides, She set a good
example by working hard and having an optimistic outlook on life. I vividly remember that
she used to leave home for work early and come home quite late, but she always made time for
me and my siblings. That’s why I idolize her who could maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Now my mother is at her retirement and has more time for the family. But, unfortunately, I’ve
been living far from home, so we have very little quality time with each other these days. That's
why whenever I get back home on weekends, I make sure to spend most of my time cooking,
eating, watching TV, and having idle chit-chat with my mom. I can confide everything to her,
things like my study, my work or even my relationship. She's always been someone who I can
turn to for advice.

Đề 17: Describe an interesting old person.

You should say:

- Who the person is

- Where you met him/ her

- What characteristics of his you most like

- Why you think this person is interesting

The old person I admire most is my grandfather. To me, he is a hero, an ideal father, a
benevolent person and a man of his honour.

My grandfather is in his 70s but he has a youthful appearance with a well-built body and fair
skin. He is still as fit as a fiddle because he is strong enough to support some household chores
when my parents go out for work and to cultivate a spacious garden.

We live in an extended family and he is still the head of our family. Though he can’t manage all
aspects of our family, he is still the decision-maker because of his rich life experience and our
respect for him. Besides, I could say that he was a successful father as all of his children, I mean
my father, my aunt and uncle, have become professionals or businessmen thanks to the good
educational environment my grandfather gave them at school and at home. Last but not least,
people call him a benevolent person because he is always willing to give others in our locality
a hand when they need it.

For the reason why I think he is an interesting old man, there are two main explanations. Firstly,
he has a good sense of humour. His funny and amusing stories always turn him into the life
and soul of the party. I love moments all members gathering in the living room at weekend,
listening to his historical memories and laughing. Secondly, he is a person of his word. This
means he would not talk much but when he does it carries unparalleled weights. All in all, I
always look up to him and want to have him beside me forever.

You should say:

- When and where you first met this person

- How the person is

- What you often do together

- Why the person becomes your best friend

When I read the cue card, the first one springing to mind was Mikel - my cousin as well as my
best friend. We are the same age and have been together since our preschool years. It’s already
been almost 20 years. Well, we go back a long way.

To be honest, I can’t exactly remember when I first came to know him because at that time I was
too young. I just know that when I began to be aware of the world around me, probably at the
age of 3, he was already there.

When it comes to personality, we are polar opposites. I am painfully shy and reserved and
easily get bad-tempered whereas he is a talkative social butterfly. Besides, he has good
communication skills, confidence in himself, an optimistic outlook on life. I think we
complement each other perfectly. As different as our character traits are, we seem to be on the
same wavelength. We’ve seen eye to eye on many topics like politics, relationships, marriage,
and the like.

We were born and raised in the countryside so the activities we usually did together were
fishing, swimming in ponds and rivers or flying kites. These days, we are all up to our ears in
work and study, so we don’t hang out with each other very often. But he’s always willing to give
me a hand when needed. To me, this guy is a shoulder to cry on.

We’ve taken a keen interest in playing football. In fact, we’re part of the football team at
primary and secondary school where he was the captain. Before every fixture, he planned a
particular strategy based on which opponents we would encounter and all his tactics seemed

football player in the region, but the most exemplary captain.

Đề 20: Describe an intelligent friend.

You should say:

- Who this person is

- When and where you first met him/ her
- What kind of person he/ she is
- Why you think this person is intelligent

The person I’d like to talk about is one of my university coursemates called Mikel because
honestly speaking, he’s one of the smartest people I have ever known. We’ve been friends since
I was a freshman at university. I found myself sitting next to him in our first lecture, and we
soon got on like a house on fire.

He is so sociable and likable. Although he’s a super-smart guy, he’s not arrogant in the
slightest, and he gets on well with pretty much everyone in my department. Therefore, he
always becomes the life and soul of the party.

He always passes all our exams with flying colours, you know, like coming top or second in
most of them. And what’s amazing is that he doesn’t seem to be a studious person, but still
manages all stuff so well. For example, in addition to studying, he’s also got a part-time job
which I’m sure must take up quite a bit of his time, so it’s really impressive how he’s able to do
this without it affecting his studies whatsoever. He is so knowledgeable too because he can give
answers to most of my questions even when it doesn't relate to our major at college. I guess this
is because he is a bookworm who has read many page-turners and has a good memory to
remember all of them. And another thing is that whenever the lecturer asks a question, he always
knows the answer, and sometimes he’ll just whisper it to me because he feels a bit
embarrassed to answer every time!

I’d say he’s a really clever guy, and I feel very lucky to have such a good friend. I also think I
should hit the book more often to be as smart as him.

Đề 21: Describe your ideal house.

You should say:

- Where it is

- What it looks like

- When you would like to live in it

- Why you would like to live in it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was the imaginary house I would
like to build when I can afford it.

When it comes to a place to settle in, what I attach great importance to is tranquility. That’s
why my dream house should be located in a peaceful country setting far away from the hustle
and bustle of the city.

I love the idea of constructing a two-storey house which would be cosy enough for a small
family. Leading a minimalist lifestyle, I want the house to be painted plain white and the
interior design to be as simple as possible. Natural light is a must for this house so each room
would have its own window decorated with a vase of flowers.

Each bedroom would have a balcony where we can admire the breathtaking view of the paddy
fields and rivers outside at sunset. I bet you that nothing is as pleasant as the fragrance of the
rice plant. Just imagine we get home after a long stressful day of working and all that we need is
to sit on the balcony and chill out. I would also create a beautiful garden to plant some
vegetables and raise some animals like chickens or pigs. The idea of being self-sufficient in
food production is really exciting.

If my dream comes true, I will invite my parents to live with my little family in that house and
we will live happily together for good.

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was the house my uncle built last

When it comes to a place to settle in, what many people attach great importance to is
tranquility and so does my uncle. He’s at his retirement so he decided to get back to his
hometown and construct a lovely house in a peaceful country setting far away from the hustle
and bustle of the city.

It’s a two-storey house which is cosy enough for his small family. Leading a minimalist
lifestyle, he got all the walls painted plain white. The interior design is also as simple as
possible. Natural light is a must for this house so each room has its own window decorated with

I am really impressed with this house and I always stay motivated and work hard to be able to
build such a house when I get old.

You should say:

- Who bought it

- What it looks like

- What it is used for

- How you felt about it

When talking about a piece of furniture, the first thing that comes to mind is the bookshelf. It is
a wonderful gift which my father gave to me to congratulate me on passing the university
entrance exam with flying colors.

It is a large wooden bookshelf which has five layers and it is located in my room so that I can
arrange all my books neatly there. For the top three layers, I arrange my IELTS books, and for
two layers at the bottom, I put various kinds of English story books like romantics, fiction and
comedies.

As I’m a bookworm, I find having it is so convenient because it allows me to look for my

favorite books more easily. It would be great in rainy days, I stay at home, kick back on the sofa
and feel lost in the real page-turners. Since I have had this bookshelf, I feel that I have
developed more interests in reading books and my reading skills and vocabulary are enhanced
significantly.

In my free time, I pay a visit to bookshops and purchase a lot of books for myself, display
them on this bookshelf and read them in my leisure time. The bookshelf comes in handy for
me and it’s a fantastic place where I seek comfort when I am not in a good mood.

Đề 24: Describe a historical period/ event/ figure.

You should say:

- What the historical period/ event/ figure is

- How you know it/ him/ her

- What happened during that time

- Why you like it/ him/ her

Version #1:

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was the period of the French
domination of Vietnam, which lasted from the mid 19th century to 1945 when President Ho Chi
Minh read the Declaration of Independence. Well, many youngsters in Vietnam may consider
History as a minor subject and seem to pay very little attention to it, but I’m sure nobody in
this country is ignorant of Uncle Ho Chi Minh and this historical period.

The French colonial rule was politically repressive and economically exploitative. People's
lives fell into misery. Many uprisings took place but were all brutally suppressed.

In the midst of that, an excellent person appeared and he’s Ho Chi Minh. After 30 years of
traveling around the world from Africa, America to Europe to find a way to save the country, he
returned to Vietnam to directly lead the resistance war against France. And we finally won the
battle. On September 2, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence.

This event has always been regarded as the most important as it marked the end of the one-
century French occupation of Vietnam as well as the birth of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Almost all the Vietnamese back then were farmers and not well-educated. But we united to keep
fighting bravely. Millions of people died, but their heroic actions live forever.

You should say:

- What it is

- Where it is

- What its features are

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám or
the Temple of Literature in English.

It was constructed in the 11th century by King Lý Thánh Tông. Back then, it had two prime
functions, one of which was to play the role of the first university in Vietnam, educating
officials, nobles, royalties and other members of the elite. Besides, it was a temple dedicated to
Confucius - a Chinese philosopher with his teachings focusing on creating ethical, moral and
educational standards. Now, this complex acts as a museum or a tourist attraction.

The main entrance of the complex is located on Quốc Tử Giám street in the heart of Hanoi. It
was built in a vast area with 5 courtyards. Three courtyards at the front houses a lot of gardens,
gates, pavilions and wells making the air so clean and fresh. In the other two courtyards at the
back, there are halls where the altars to Confucius, his disciples and Chu Van An - the rector of
the imperial academy are placed.

However, the complex’s claim to fame is the Turtle Steles with the names of those successful at
the royal exams. It is widely believed that touching the heads of those stone turtles can bring you
good luck in your upcoming exams. But such actions are now strictly banned. The Temple of
Literature has become my all-time favourite place every time I’m about to seat an exam. I’m
not superstitious. I just want to refresh myself with a sense of tranquility when going there.

- How good he/ she is

When I read the cue card, the first one springing to mind was Mrs. Annie. She lives with her
family next door to us. According to my mother’s account, both my family and her family
moved to the area 20 years back. So we go back a long way.

She is a very amiable and approachable person. With children and senior citizens, she behaves
very mildly. She has been running a grocery store and I vividly remember that she always gave
me snacks when I dropped by to invite her son to hang out with me.

Despite going through many ups and downs, she always has a positive outlook on life. Her
motto is “to keep moving forward”. In fact, she was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, but
she still looks on the bright side of the problem and encourages herself to live happily. Now her
well-being has been significantly enhanced.

This neighbour never forgets to remind me that I can ask her for a helping hand. She really is a
wonderful neighbour and I know I could turn to her for advice if I need to. She does a lot of
charity work, helping underprivileged people. That’s why I idolize her. Now we don't see each
other very often as I went to college in the city a few years back. But I visit her whenever I go
back to my hometown.

You should say:

- What it is about

- How often you read it

- What kinds of people often read it

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was a magazine called Life
Extension. The magazine discusses issues, news, and innovations that may help extend our life.
It’s all about the overall well-being of humans. This periodical is published online on a weekly
basis and I virtually never miss any of its articles.

A couple of months back, I read an article about introducing a bunch of health tips. Its title is
“how to lead a healthy life”. The article really broadened my horizons. It provides loads of
feasible practices of eating, sleep, physical activities, mental health and the like. You can see all
these aspects are very important and closely related to a healthy life.

I realised that the sedentary lifestyle I was leading was so harmful to my well-being. The article
highly recommends that I should go for a walk at least 30 minutes every day. I actually bought a
fitness tracker to measure my pulse and the number of steps I took every day. Such a device
really helps promote more walking.

It is the article that has changed my walking habit. I find walking is an excellent way to get lean
and unwind at the same time. So I enjoy strolling around my neighbourhood every day,
especially in a scenic park nearby. Over the past few months, both my physical and mental
health have been enormously improved, so that I could work and study better.

You should say:

- What it is

- Where you do it

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was running. My all-time favourite
type of running is not fast sprinting, but slow jogging.

Recently, a scenic park has been erected in the proximity of my house. It is surrounded by
massive trees and the paths really favour running. That’s why my friends and I hit the park on a
regular basis taking up jogging. We even bought fitness trackers to measure our pulse and
count steps. As far as I’m concerned, a lap around the park is 1.5km. On the first day, we were
able to run one lap without taking a break. As time goes by, we want to gradually increase our
mileage to our desired distance - 10km.

After a few months of maintaining the running habit, I find that my well-being has been
significantly enhanced. With regard to my physical health, I can finish three laps around the
park at a time with ease. The habit gives me a good appetite but I still can maintain a healthy
weight at the same time. As for my mental health, running is an excellent way to unwind after a
tiring stressful day.

I believe this activity is an easy escape from the mundane professional life. The best part is that
I could develop a close relationship with my friends as we spend quality time together.

Đề 30: Describe a water sport you would like to take up in the future.

You should say:

- What it is

- Where you will do it

- Whether it is easy or difficult

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was scuba diving.

Although some may call it a sport or a hobby, to me it seems more than that. It looks more like
an underwater adventure full of delightful surprises. I’d wish to dip under the surface of some
beautiful crystal clear water in Vietnam that is full of abundant marine life.

I first came to know this water sport so many years back when I was a student at primary school.
When I was watching a travel TV show, I saw people play the sport and I was instantly
impressed.

There could be more than a thousand reasons why I’d want to go scuba diving. The prime
reason is to see something new. The world under the surface of the water is a completely
different world. I want to see mysterious underwater caves, colorful coral, or weird creatures
like starfish and swordfish.

I heard that we need to receive proper training and learn a lot of safety measures. And it also
entails a fair bit of equipment, such as a mask and oxygen tank. I may have to dig deeper into
this and I know that in Vietnam there are not many specialized scuba centres. So if I have a
chance to travel abroad someday like Australia, I definitely will learn about this sport and
practice it.

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was Thanh Xuân park. This park has

for outdoor activities.

There are many pathways around the park. It is shut off from traffic by space with greenery.
The shrubs and hedges are always well clipped. The park is surrounded by massive trees so it’s
very shady. There is a lake in the centre playing the role of a climate moderator, keeping the air
fresh.

On top of that, what impresses me the most is its quietness and tranquility. That’s why it’s my
all-time favourite place whenever I feel the need to decompress. My roommates and I really
often go to the park to have a stroll in the evening. It’s an excellent way to unwind and get lean
at the same time. Even when I have some new books to read or homework to do, but feel bored
with being at home, I also hit the park to get all the things done. The peacefulness of the park
helps me stay focused and read the books without any distractions.

Since the establishment of the park, the lives of the dwellers around have been well affected.
Thanks to it, air pollution has been somewhat alleviated and people have a place to get around
for entertainment. The park has received very positive feedback from the public.

When I read the cue card, the first one springing to mind was Trill Coffee - one of the most
well-known names in town with so many shops in the city. But I really love the one located on
the rooftop of the Hei Tower building on Nguy Nhu Kontum street, which offers a stunning
view of the city.

Last Christmas, my friends and I paid a visit to the coffee shop as it was highly recommended
by Foody - a prestigious restaurant review website in Vietnam. We’re all instantly impressed
by the cafe’s elegant design. The cafe is synonymous with its botanical-inspired design, which
may give its visitors a sense of peace and tranquility.

The staff are really well-trained and attentive to the needs of guests. Also, people getting there
are generally quite respectful and don’t disturb other people by talking or laughing too loudly.
The hectic pace of city life can be overwhelming to me and I sometimes feel the need to have a
bit of me time. I realize that reading a book and having a cup of tea at Trill Coffee is an
excellent way to take a retreat from reality. Or sometimes, I simply just sit still at the shop,
listen to relaxing melodious music and enjoy the view. This way is really an energy boost
which can help alleviate my stress. It’s rare to find such a place in Hanoi and it’s my all-time
favourite place on weekends.

- How often you make/ eat it

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was Vietnamese rice noodles or Phở.
Hanoi’s claim to fame is a variety of delicacies, and Phở is one of them. In fact, this dish has
long been listed as one of the most scrumptious foods tourists should discover when travelling
abroad and has found its place on the world’s culinary map.

Phở is simply a combination of broth, fresh rice noodles, thinly sliced beef or chicken, with a
sprinkle of aromatic herbs. It is light, not fattening yet nutritious, delicious and fragrant with
Vietnamese spices.

I have eaten Phở since I was a little kid and the dish has become my all-time favourite food for
breakfast and sometimes for the other meals. We could find this dish in every nook and cranny
of the country. However, Phở is a specialty of Hanoi, so it is better in try Phở in Hanoi than
anywhere else. I have eaten Phở in other cities like HCM, Đà Nẵng or Nghệ An but the taste is
not original.

Phở is a cultural icon of Hanoi. I always miss it the most whenever I am far away from the city.
The dish is also a national treasure. Many foreigners have come to Vietnam partly because they
want to try Phở once in their lives. If you give this food a try, you’re likely to find yourself
craving more and more of it.

Đề 34: Describe a cake that took you a lot of time to prepare

You should say:

- What it was
- Who you have it to
- How you prepared it
- And explain why you spent a lot of time preparing it

I would like to make a description of a birthday cake that took me many hours to prepare for
my husband.

Actually, since we tied the knot, I hadn’t done anything special to him. On his last birthday, I
thought we needed to warm our love a bit and I decided to make a birthday cake for him by
myself.

To be honest, I’m not an excellent cook and cook once in a blue moon, too, because most of
the time, I’m up to my ears in work. I had to confess that making a birthday cake was the
most complicated dish I had ever prepared.

To prepare this cake, I searched the recipe on Youtube and jotted down all essential
ingredients, such as white powder, sugar, cream, some fruits,…. and bought all in a local
market. Then, I followed step-by-step instructions of a Youtuber carefully from scratch, and
the final product was a one-bowl cake that baked up buttery, topped off with frosting
buttercream and a scatter of sprinkles.

I was nearly exhausted after nearly 2 hours in the kitchen, but my energy was recharged right
after my husband came home and it took him completely by surprise, even going to cry with
happiness. I think making a birthday cake was not too hard but really meaningful to me and to
my husband.

Đề 35: Describe a food that people eat in special events.

You should say:

- What it is

- When people eat it

- Where it is mostly eaten

- Why people eat it in special events

There is a dish that can be served all year round in some special events. It is fried spring rolls.
Unlike popular myth, the Vietnamese do not eat the food with rice every day. In fact, it is a
preferred food on special occasions such as Tet and other family festivities.

Ingredients used for the fried spring roll are different depending on each local area but usually, it
comprises lean minced pork, sea crabs or unshelled shrimps, edible mushroom, dried onion,
duck/ chicken eggs, pepper, salt and different kinds of seasoning. Whichever they are, all
ingredients are mixed thoroughly before being wrapped with rice paper into small rolls. These
rolls are then fried in boiling oil. The cooked rolls are usually garnished with fresh lettuce and
herbs.

Nowadays, even though modern people are swept into the maelstrom of work and spend less
time cooking every day, they still choose spring rolls for some special occasions. When I was a
little girl, my mom made spring rolls only on weekends when all members of my family
gathered together. Now, readily-made spring roll is sold at supermarkets in some boxes and
buyers just need to spend some short time re-frying it.

I think this dish becomes a common choice for meals on special occasions because of some
main reasons. Firstly, it was so yummy with the tastes of so many ingredients mixed together.
Secondly, cooking this dish is a bit labour-intensive, so many people can cook it together. It is
such an amusing moment to escape from the pressure at the office or school.

You should say:

- What the animal is

- When I first saw it

- What its features are

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first animal springing to mind was the water buffalo. The wild
water buffalo is native to Southeast Asia.

I believe that all Vietnamese people first came to know this animal from an early age and I am
no exception. The image of this animal has long been associated with the daily life of
Vietnamese people. It appears in paddy fields, poetry, ancient art, and even fashion that make it
an indispensable part of the Vietnamese culture.

A water buffalo can weigh up to 1 ton. Besides, its black skin and two sharp horns make it look
like a fierce beast. However, water buffaloes are herbivores and almost harmless to humans
because they have long been domesticated. Buffaloes have been highly regarded in Vietnam
because in former days, they used to play an integral part in Vietnamese agriculture before the
advent of modern agricultural machinery.

To the Vietnamese people, this diligent, gentle and faithful animal symbolizes a desire for an
abundant harvest, prosperity, and happy life. Although unofficial, the fact that the water buffalo
is the national animal of Vietnam has been universally accepted. In fact, the mascot of the
2003 Sea Games held in Vietnam is a golden water buffalo. These days, buffaloes are raised
largely for meat and not widely used in agriculture as before, however, the image of them has
gone deep into the subconscious mind of the Vietnamese as a cultural icon.

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was Dennis - a cat my family raised

If I had had to talk about my favourite pet 10 years ago, I would have stumbled over my
words. At that time, I was not allowed to keep pets because they were my mother’s pet hate.
She said that they would be naughty making all the stuff around the home messy. However,
surprisingly, it was she who adopted Dennis with a view to keeping mice away from my house.

It’s a bicolour Vietnamese kitty with black and white fur. He was named after my all-time
favourite football legend Dennis Bergkamp. Every morning, he crept into my room and woke
me up. He always wanted me to keep him company. We played hide and seek together
countless times. Gradually, we formed a close friendship.

Unlike other painfully shy cats, he was not timid, but really sociable. Even a stranger could get
close to him and cuddle him when he was soaking up the sun in our front yard. Ironically, he
got scared of mice. He never caught a mouse and mice still overran my house at night. My
mother was so disappointed with him. But it didn’t matter to me whether he could catch mice or
not. I considered him as a family member. He died of old age a few years back and since then
I’ve never adopted any pets.

You should say:

- What it is

- Where it is spoken

- How difficult it is

- Why you would like to learn it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was Chinese.

It is largely spoken in the East Asian and Southeast Asian countries, including mainland China,
Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia. There are tens of millions of Chinese
expats settling down in the USA, Canada, Australia and many European countries. Altogether,
Chinese is the language of over 1 billion people all over the world and expected to take over
from English in the not-too-distant future.

Many of my friends who are majoring in the Chinese language at college have told me that
learning Chinese is not tricky at all as its grammar is really similar to that of Vietnamese. The
two languages even share many words in common because Vietnamese vocabulary has
borrowings from Chinese, and it formerly used a modified set of Chinese characters called ‘chữ
nôm’.

Due to 1000 years of Chinese rule, Vietnamese culture was heavily influenced by Chinese
culture in terms of politics, social and moral ethics, and art. That’s why I want to gain an insight
into Chinese culture so that I can get a deeper understanding of our own culture. So learning the
local language and establishing a close rapport with the local people is an excellent strategy.
Besides, the ability to speak English as well as Chinese would also allow me to land a well-paid
job as now China is a superpower and more and more Chinese companies have been springing
up all over the world, including Vietnam.

You should say:

- What the dictionary is

- What its outstanding features are

- How often you use it

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was the oxford learners’ dictionary.
As its name suggests, the dictionary has been published by the University of Oxford, an
educational institution with enormous prestige.

I first came to know this dictionary many years back when I was a high-schooler. At that time,
the dictionary was highly recommended by my English teacher so I decided to purchase a print
version of it. This dictionary really came in handy. Each time when I revised for my English
exams and encountered a new word or an uncommon expression, the dictionary managed to
lend me a helping hand.

Since I started going to college and had my own smartphone, I’ve turned to the online version.
When I first accessed the website, I was instantly impressed by its elegant design. The clean
layout makes it really straightforward to navigate the interface. It turned out that the online
version even offered a more detailed explanation of words than the print one.

It has been 7 years since I started using the Oxford learners’ dictionary. Whether it is the paper
dictionary or the electronic one, either of them is my go-to choice when it comes to an excellent
dictionary. I would say it was a contributing factor in the fact that I was able to gain admission

Đề 40: Describe your favourite singer.

You should say:

- Who this person is

- When you first knew him/ her

- What genre he/ she specializes in

- Why you like him/ her

When I read the cue card, the first one springing to mind was Sơn Tùng MTP - a megastar in the
Vietnamese music industry. I’ve been a die-hard fan of this singer since he was still a lesser-
known name in Vietnamese showbiz.

I first came to know this singer a decade ago when I encountered his song “Cơn mưa ngang
qua” and I was instantly impressed by its pleasant melody. I did a little digging about him on
the Internet and realized that he was the valedictorian of the entrance exam of the National
Academy of Music.

He made his debut in the Underground scene but now his masterpieces are a harmonious
combination of many different genres like hip-hop, EDM, Pop and bolero. That’s why his
products can reach a wider range of audiences from youngsters to the elderly. He is
synonymous with many hit songs getting hundreds of millions of views on Youtube. What is
special is that all of them are composed by Sơn Tùng himself and he just sings his own songs.

Despite the fact that he is constantly up to his ears in work, he still can make time for his family.
His family travel a lot and I enjoy seeing photos of them on Instagram. I can’t believe such a
busy person can have so much quality time with his family. That’s why I idolize him who can
find the right balance between work and life.

Đề 41: Describe your favourite song.

You should say:

- What the song is

- When you first heard the song

- What it is about

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was “First Love” by singer Trung
Quân. Trung Quân is a megastar in the Vietnamese music industry with so many hit songs
getting tens of millions of views on Youtube. I’ve been a die-hard fan of this singer since he was
still a lesser-known name in Showbiz.

He recently released the song ‘First Love’ to the public and I was one of the first people to listen
to the song when it was premiered on his Youtube channel. I was instantly impressed by the
gentle melody and the silky voice of the singer.

The music video tells a love story of two student boys in the context of Vietnam a decade ago.
They were smitten by each other but didn’t dare to confess because at that time same-sex
relationships were still strongly opposed in Vietnam. I really enjoy the last sentence of the
lyrics "no more words to say; wishing you all the best with your new-found happiness". It shows
the true love of this boy for the other. He always wishes the best will happen to the person he
secretly loves. It gives me a sense of fulfilment.

Many people think it has a sad ending as they couldn’t become a couple. At least, they can keep
this genuine feeling deep inside of them despite having their own families and lives. So now
after 10 years, they meet again and give each other a bright smile. I think it's a happy ending.

Đề 42: Describe your favourite book.

You should say:

- What its name is

- What its author is

- What it’s about

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was ‘Boundaries and Categories’ - a
novel written in English by the Chinese author Wang Feng. He is one of the most prominent
novelists in Asia in general and China in particular.

With regard to ‘Boundaries and Categories’, I love its unique approaches to personify aspects of
life. When the novel was published, it instantly came into the spotlight, which really filled me
with curiosity. So a few days later, I went to Nhã Nam Book Store to buy it. And the novel
really lived up to my expectation. We enjoyed every page of it and couldn’t put it down.

The main themes of the novel are class conflict and social inequality. What impressed me the
most was the image of staircases. They are repeatedly used to represent the high and low social
status of the different characters. The novel offers many different perspectives such as the
attitude of the rich towards the poor and vice versa. And whether we are rich or poor, we all
have to struggle with our own concerns in life.

Thanks to the movie, now I am aware of unresolved problems hidden behind the glamor of
Chinese society. The novel has received widespread acclaim and won the Chinese national book
award. It is said that many implications are conveyed in the novel. That's why I want to read it
again.

I remember that at college, we studied a subject called Cultures and Civilizations. There was this
one time, we were given an assignment in which we had to write about social discrimination in
this modern age. And this novel became a great source for me to collect information. It really
came in handy at that time. The lecturer said she liked my paper and gave me a 9. And that’s
the way the book became my supportive companion.

Đề 44: Describe a book you recently read.

You should say:

- What its name is

- What it is about

- What sort of people would enjoy it

- Why you enjoyed it

When talking about my all-time favorite book, the first one that comes to mind is definitely
“The Diary of a wimpy kid”. It is the New York Times’ bestseller storybook written by Jeff
Kinney. Its target readers are American children 12 to 15 years old.

The first time I read this book I felt it was a real page-turner because it is so hilarious and
fascinating. This book reminds me of my childhood and I see myself in the character of Greg,
who is a mischievous boy and he’s really into making jokes or playing tricks. He has his own
diary which he writes all his stories at school or at home and express his emotions and thought.
He wishes to become popular at school so he tries his best to do anything to make his dream
come true but in the end, he is stuck in trouble.

What I find the most interesting about this character is that he is such a loyal and reliable friend.
Despite bickering with his closest friend, he is still willing to give Rowley a hand when he
encounters difficulties and needs support. They always have each other standing by whenever
they face challenges.

So far, I have completed twelve books of the Diary of a wimpy kid and I find it hard to put it
down. If my friend asks me about any good English book, I would highly recommend this book
to them.

I love its unique approaches to personify aspects of life. When the film premiered, it instantly

first time. That's why I want to watch it again.

Đề 46: Describe a movie that made you laugh.

You should say:

- What it is

- When you watched it

- What it is about

- Why it made you laugh

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was “3 Idiots” - a Bollywood comedy
movie. Comedy movies are my all-time favourite ones and I’ve watched tons of movies of this
kind but “3 Idiots” left me the deepest impression.

The first time when I watched this movie was probably 7 years back when I was still in high
school. When the film premiered, it instantly came into the spotlight, which really filled me
with curiosity. So a few days later, I went to the cinema to view the movie in the company of
my friend. And the movie really lived up to our expectations. We burst into fits of laughter
from one scene to another.

It was a blockbuster movie that made a splash in India in particular and in Asia in general that
year. The movie revolves around 3 engineering students, one of whom usually gets A in every
subject while the opposite is true for the other two. However, they get on well with each other
and become bosom friends. They often prank their fellow students and professors at college. I
believe that you’ll start laughing from the very first scene till the end.

At the end of the film, the two students are persuaded to pursue their own passions to pursue
success which are photography and music. The message of the film is clear and meaningful: we
only can succeed in something when we genuinely love doing it.

Đề 47. Describe your favourite plant/ an important plant in your country/ a plant you want
to grow.

You should say:

- What the plant is

- When you first knew it

- What its major features are

- Why you like it

When I read the cue card, the first thing springing to mind was the Lotus flower.

Basically, it is an aquatic plant that is found floating in shallow water. Lotus flowers are in
bloom from around May to July in a large number of ponds and lakes. Lotus flowers can be
commonly seen in white and pink. The white represents the purity of the mind and soul,
whereas, the pink lotus shows affection and inner peace.

I believe that all Vietnamese people first came to know this plant from an early age and I am
no exception. The image of this plant appears in ancient arts, folk songs, architecture and even
fashion that make it an indispensable part of the Vietnamese culture. It is highly regarded in
Vietnam as it is a sacred flower in Buddhism. Despite growing in muddy waters, it rises above
the surface to bloom with breathtaking beauty and a pleasant scent. The mud represents all
suffering and difficulties we’ve been through and it is those difficulties that make us stronger to
gain achievements in life.

Besides, the Lotus is widely used in many recipes. The stem is used in many kinds of salad
whereas the stamens can be made into a herbal tea. Furthermore, people often make use of
lotus leaves instead of plastic bags or paper to wrap Cốm - a delicacy in Hanoi. All in all, it’s no
wonder that Lotus is chosen as the national flower because of its cultural significance,
symbolism and popularity.

Đề 48: Describe a journey that you went by car.

You should say:

- when it was

- where you went

- why you chose to go by car

- And how you felt you about the journey

When I read the cue card, the first thing coming to mind was a car journey that I had with my
small beloved family last national holiday.

On the first two days of September, we had two days off because it is the National Independence
Day of Vietnam. So, my husband and I thought we should grasp the chance to go somewhere
and put our feet up.

Because we had a little one-year-old son, we preferred some destinations near Hanoi to avoid
weariness of a long journey. Tam Dao, which is a pristine, pollution-free district in the
northern part of Hanoi, about 60 km from my home, was our final choice. We also made a
decision to travel in our own private car.

Most of the time we visited somewhere, we used to take public transport like a plane or train,
but that time was the first one we drove by ourselves. Why? You know, as I mentioned, I had a
little child so there was so much stuff I had to bring with me like his personal clothes, diapers,
scooter, food, and so on, so going by car was much more convenient. Another reason is because
of its flexibility. Tam Dao is not a well-known tourist attraction, so it is quite inaccessible to
trains or planes. Therefore, a private car seemed to be the perfect choice.

We had great fun on the journey. My husband drove while my son and I played toys together,
sang along or even snapped along the way. On the way home, it rained cats and dogs and
surely we did not get drenched to the skin. I think from now on, I will plan more car journeys
like this.

Unfortunately, my car started making odd sounds out of the engine, and then suddenly stopped.
It turned out to run out of petrol because I forgot to fill it up. We got stuck in the middle of
nowhere without any petrol station and had to stop on the highway and flagged down any
vehicle we saw to ask for help. Fortunately, a driver stopped and pulled my car to the nearest
petrol station.

It was really a ridiculous situation I went through in my life, and I promise myself next time I
will always check the petrol provision for long journeys.

Đề 50: Describe an unusual experience of travelling.

You should say:

We had great fun on the journey. My husband drove while my son and I played toys together,

we did not get drenched to the skin.

I regard this experience as special because of two main reasons. Firstly, we travelled in our own
private car. Secondly, my car broke down halfway. On the way home, my car started making
odd sounds out of the engine, and then suddenly stopped. It turned out to run out of petrol
because I forgot to fill it up. We got stuck in the middle of nowhere without any petrol station
and had to stop on the highway and flagged down any vehicle we saw to ask for help.
Fortunately, a driver stopped and pulled my car to the nearest petrol station.

These are two unusual things I experienced on the same journey, but they both make my journey
unforgettable.
