Interquartile Range
Interquartile Range
I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
Solve for the range of ungrouped and grouped data and
Determine the value of Inter-quartile Range
Appreciate the concept of range in real life situation.
“ok Joy” “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of
the Holy Spirit, Amen. Our Father in heaven holy
be your name, your kingdom come your will be
done. On Earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day
our daily bread and forgive us our sins as we
forgive those who sins against us, do not bring us
to the test but deliver us from evil. Amen”
B.REVIEW
“USING KAHOOT”
“Before we formally start our lesson, let’s have first
a review. To refresh your knowledge about the
Quartile.Kindly join using the kahoot and here’s the
code AHBLDS”
C.MOTIVATION
D. LESSON PROPER
Example: 1
The scores obtained by 12 students in a statistics
class are 80, 75,63,95,98,78,85.90,73,68,87 and
81. Find the range
Sol’n:
The highest score is 98, while the lowest score is
63. Hence,
R=HV-LV Sol’n:
=98-63 R=HV-LV
R=35 =99-7
Example:2 R=92
What is the range for the following set of numbers? Sol’n:
10, 99, 87, 45, 67, 43, 45, 33, 21, 7, 65, 98? R=HV-LV
=19-(-12)
Example: 3
=19+12
What is the range of these integers?
R=31
14, -12, 7, 0, -5, -8, 17, -11, 19
Range of Grouped Data- determined by
subtracting the lower boundary of the lowest class
interval from the upper boundary of the highest
class interval off a frequency distribution.
Example:
Find the range of the given frequency distribution

35 – 39 7 R= 35
40 – 44 10
45 – 49 8
50 – 54 6
Sol’n:

IQR=Q 3−Q 1
Example:
1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15, 18, 19, 27.
sol’n:
step 1: find the median
1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15, 18, 19, 27.
step 2: Place parentheses around the numbers
above and below the median.
Not necessary statistically, but it makes Q1 and Q3
easier to spot.
(1, 2, 5, 6, 7), 9, (12, 15, 18, 19, 27).
steps 3: Get the median of the Q1 and the Q3.
IQR=Q 3−Q 1
=18-5 Sol’n:
=13 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 15, 16, 20, 21.
IV-ASSESSMENT
1) 5, 7, 8, 2 ,4,5,3
2) 23,17,41,12,14,40, 36,17,23,5
3) 21, 23,25,19,18,30,22,26,27 19,19,25
4) Find the mode for marks of 50 students.
