DESCRIBING ACTIVITIES

In this chapter, we will use a Present Continuous Tense to describe Action that is
happening at the time of speaking.
For example : I am reading the textbook
You are listening to the lecturer’s explanation
We can use the Present Continuous Tense to describe Trends or Changes.
For example : People are shopping online nowadays
Many people are doing coffeeshop business as their income source
Also, it can be used to describe a Fixed Future Plan.
For example : We are presenting the annual report tomorrow
You are attending your client’s invitation
Just for reminder, when we meet a Continuous forms, we will use Verb + Ing formula.
Subject To Be Continuous Form Complements
I Am Object
You/ We/ They Are Verb + Ing Adjective
He/ She/ It is Adverb

Positive Negative Interrogative

I am making more money I am not making more
money

Gerund
Gerund is used to form Present Continuous Tense. What is Gerund?
Gerund is base form Verb + Ing. It is a verb that acts like a noun in a sentence. For
example : reading, writing, presenting,etc
We can simply put -ing after verb, but there are special rules for some verbs :
1. Verbs end with -e : we have to remove -e and add -ing
Ex. Complete  Completing
2. Verbs end with -ie : we have to change -ie to -y and add -ing
Ex. Lie  Lying
3. Verbs consist of consonant + vowel + consonant : we have to doubled the last
consonant and add -ing
Ex. Get  Getting

We have already studied what is the use of Present Continuous Tense above, classify
the sentences below whether if it is Action that is happening at the time of speaking,
Trend or change, or Fixed future plan
1. I am having an important project next month

Answer : Action that is happening at the time of speaking.

Describe trends or changes at your campus, home, or your society

Currently there are many online shops in my city that sell food and drinks. Many
people are selling the food and drink through social media such as Instagram. many
types of food and drinks that are sold, such as snacks, cakes, juices, and others. the
price also varies, some are cheap to expensive.
