TITLE :
Book Review of ‘Legal Eagles By Indu Bhan

AIM OF THE PROJECT :

The aim of the the project is to show an intimate view of
individuals who have contributed to the advancement of law
in their own way in the last two decades or so.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR :

Indu Bhan is one of India’s top legal reporters with over a
decade of writing experience on the Indian legal system. Indu
Bhan is a special correspondent at “The Indian Express” and
one of their leading columnists. She is an assistant editor with
the Financial Express, part of the Indian Express Group. She
also pens a weekly column, ‘Verdict Corner’, that reflects on
the recent happenings in the field of law. She has worked with
some of the most eminent media houses of the country
including Business Standard, Mint and the Press Trust of
India. She lives in Delhi. Indu Bhan, a veteran journalist with
The Express Group, is the author of ‘Legal Eagles’ that looks
at seven of the most successful lawyers in the country. She
has always been interested in writing a book related to legal
profession especially about the laws that have impacted our
economy and corporate world and, in particular, our society.
The author Indu Bhan is a highly respected legal reporter. She
is also connected with business Standard and PTI. Other
notable book written by her is ‘The Dramatic Decade’ which
deals with the landmark cases in modern India.

ABOUT THE BOOK :

Legal Eagles is about seven of the top legal luminaries ' legal
trips that have helped shape contemporary India's legal
landscape. The book includes their life-sketches that are crisp
and engaging. Their private and professional journeys are
recapitulated. In the post-liberalization age, they were the
lawyers to watch out for. Their biographical sketches take one
through the finer shades of their characters and can best be
summarised as their persistence, commitment, search for
perfection in their techniques of preparing and the finesse
with which they carry out their duties. For young budding
lawyers, it's basically an inspiring book. The book is by no
means a reflection on other people's job that was not featured
here. This book also addresses and discusses some of the most
urgent problems of our time, particularly corporate litigation
in high-stake problems, with its primary focus on legal
elements.
Indian judicial system has garnered worldwide fame through
its historical and remarkable judgements and the hard work of
its judges and lawyers rarely catches the glaze of common
public. Legal Eagle tries to bridge this gap. Indu Bhan’s
'Legal Eagles: Stories of top seven Indian lawyers’ traces the
story of the top seven lawyers in India. Lawyers, as we
commonly perceive, are not just shrewd intellectuals but
much more. It takes more than just intelligence to become a
successful lawyer. It takes years of practice, extensive studies
and professionalism which set the absolutely outstanding
lawyers from the general ones. Their life and career graph is
full of crusts and troughs and this book gives an insight into it.

CONCLUSION :
The book is about the seven very successful lawyers of India
currently. They all have been associated with some or other
landmark cases which have impacted the country in some
way. The book though is very less about the legality and legal
matters and more about their journey to the place where they
are and glimpse of the cases which were most significant. I
picked the book with thought to better understand the cases
they have argued and what kind of preparation and arguments
they did in court in front judges but still this isn't bad read
either. But still primarily its must read for the students
aspiring to be lawyers. Good inspirational book for lawyers
and about some important cases of India. It makes for
fascinating reading. Everyone knows the legal eagles covered
in the book, but not many know the interesting background of
each one of them, how they started and rose by leaps and
bounds, and how they have become role models for the
younger generation of lawyers and law students. The book is
impressive and inspiring. It is opportune as it comes at a time
when the luminous stars are shining bright.
It can be read within a week. It is written with a brilliant
strategy, the book gives an insight into lives of grandmasters
of the field, beautifully intricate with their childhood,
academics and of course the professional lives.
