LOCAVORE

Pre-listening practice
Take a look at the picture below. What do you think it is? Do you find such think in your home
country?

Yes, I found it in my home country, which is Indonesia. In my area people sell Farmer markets or their
agricultural produce such as fruit and vegetables in traditional markets, roadside, and supermarkets.

Answer these questions based on the video.

1. What is FOODMILES? The way of transporting pr distributing food from the process of making or
planting it to the consumer.
2. What is the impact of FOOD MILES? It will produce more carbon which causes a global issue.

3. What transportations get involved in FOOD MILES? Plane, boat, train, and truck.

4. What is LOCAVORE? A person whose diet and eating habits are centered around local foods and
in general they only like the food they usually eat or are common.

5. Is LOCAVORE always applicable? Elaborate your answer. I don't think so, because for people who
like to travel far they will often bring junk food that can be stored longer than organic food, because
sometimes local or organic food is difficult to carry around because of its durability or storage
capacity.

6. What is URBAN FARMER? A people who is growing and producing food in their city area.

7. Why do people choose to be URBAN FARMER? Because they can provide food from around their
own homes and they also don't worry about the content of the ingredients they plant so they can
guarantee their health, like they grow vegetables in their backyard, raise livestock, etc.

8. Is it possible for your community to provide everything? Give examples. I don't think so, if we live
in the highlands, of course we will produce a lot of vegetables and fruits, and if we live in the sea
area, of course it will produce a lot of fish. But if we produce vegetables we also need fish and vice
versa, so they have to buy what they need elsewhere.

9. What questions are important to ask in buying food?

How was it made? Where did the food comes from? Who made it?

10. What is connected market? Give example.

A connected market is the trust or relationship between producers and consumers even though they
are very far away, for example if you buy fruit at a traditional market and you know how to grow it,
where it comes from and who makes it.

Post-listening practice
Write your point of view about LOCAVORE in 200-250 words.
Give arguments why you agree/disagree with it.

From the video, I can understand that we must always be grateful for whatever we can have, especially
food, because our parents look for food in areas near or far, for that we must understand that whatever
our parents give us in the form of food is the best thing for us is usually people who buy food in the
market because they prefer local food ingredients, namely food ingredients that come from farmers
directly in the video, it is explained that some people use methods or methods to grow food even in
areas that are difficult to find. In this activity there is a woman who gets vegetable food from their
village's garden and sells it at the market. There is also a man who sells citrus fruit from his village but
in the video there is also a woman who grows it in the city area. urban. Because 50% of people live in
urban areas where it is difficult to obtain local food products other than from the market, the people in
the video develop methods or ways to produce crops even in urban areas. for that, those of us who live
in rural areas and still find local foodstuffs should always be developed and introduced to the wider
community so that they can benefit from local agricultural products. Because it does not rule out that
food ingredients originating from local fields can bring more benefits because they have not been
influenced by chemicals such as preservatives. Keep preserving local materials and and keep the earth
healthy by not destroying it and adding a lot of pollution. For that, continue to eat foods that come from
locally and reduce foods that have been mixed with chemicals, thank you.

Self-Reflection:
I think the listening material is easy because the sound is clear
I try to understand the material by watch and listen it twice
To me, defining arguments is easy because I can guess from the video if I get confuse with some
word.
