A new road section is soon to be opened for traffic in the beginning of AB. This road is an
arterial road with 2 lane 1 way. This road is designed to serve the traffic for DE years. The
pavement will be done in two stages. Stage I is 5 years and Stage II is the rest. At the end of
stage 1, it is assumed that the pavement will have 40% remaining capacity. The traffic survey
has been conducted in 2014 and give the data as follows:
The DCP test was conducted to estimate the strength of the subgrade. The DCP results have
been converted to CBR for 20 locations, which are:
Please make assumption if any other data needed. Use given equation and table (Nomogram
No.1).
Question:
a. Design flexible pavement with Component Analysis Method.
b. Give three alternatives to maximize each layer.
c. Sketch the layer of three alternative.
Verified by,
CBR subgrade = 7%
Tensile strength = 4,0 MPa (f’c = 285 kg/cm2, cylindrical)
Subbase material = stabilized
Friction Coefficient between concrete slab and base course () = 1,3
Shoulder = yes (concrete)
Dowel = yes
Average daily traffic data :
- Private vehicle = 2540 vehicles/day
- Bus = HIJ vehicles/day
- Truck with 2 small axle = 500 vehicles/day
- Truck with 2 large axle = 754 vehicles/day
- Truck with 3 axles = 80 vehicles/day
- Trailer = 75 vehicles/day
Traffic growth rate = 6.5% per year
Service age = DE years
2 lanes, 1 way, arterial road
---Good Luck---
