Lesson Objective:
By the end of the lesson students will be able to recall
 Fractions as part of a whole
 Understand which number is numerator and denominator
 Notation and representation of Fractions

Materials and Resources:


Colored paper,markers, ppts.

Methodology: Interaction pattern: Time

Warm up:
Teacher will ask from students:
 If they remember what are fractions? Whole class
 What are numerator and denominator in a fraction? 10 min

ACTIVITY:
• Take a piece of paper and fold into 2 equal parts
• Unfold and shade 1 part
• Explain children that 1 out of 2 equal parts are shaded or of
the square is shaded
• We can say one half of the square is shaded Whole class 10 min
• Fold another square piece of paper into 4 equal parts
• Unfold and shade 1 part
• Now ask children how many parts are shaded, they will tell 1 out of
4 equal parts of the square is shaded
• Explain further that of the square is shaded or we can say one
quarter of the square is shaded

EXPLANATION

 Concept of fraction will be revised


 A fraction is used to represent a part of a whole. Individual work 20min
 It will be explained that whole is divided in equal parts to get require
fraction.
 Go through the table on Student book 2 page# 226 and explain
children how each fraction notation is read in words.
Fraction Bar a line that separates numerator and denominator
Numerator number of equal parts that are shaded
Denominator total number of equal parts in a whole
