SWOT

Strengths:

• The physical technique, gesture, to consolidate the


characters emotion in a non-verbal way.
• My ability to take direction from both my peers and tutors.
• The practice of improvisation and embedding the technique
into my character development.
• Confidence in front of an audience and performing to the
best of my ability on the big day.

Weaknesses:

• Poor time keeping skills leading to mismanagement of


workload schedule - I need to complete course work more
frequently in smaller chunks.
• Taking risks when applying different performance
techniques during rehearsal, for a fresh perspective on a
monologue/piece of text.
• Networking - trying to find industry involvement to obtain
experience; build up my profile.
• The physical technique (mainly practiced in movement) of
flexibility

Opportunities:

• Practice physical theatre techniques, develop a method of


devising, this will lead me to have a varied body of work in
my portfolio.

Threats:

• Getting caught up with trying to include physical techniques


and remembering lines while fulfilling the ultimate
performance goal; seeming believable.
Strengths:

• I have used gesture to my advantage throughout my


auditions. It is a really effective way of conveying the
intention. I can use this device to consolidate a potentially
hard intention to show.
• I can confidently say that I have taken direction throughout
this project - and understand it’s benefit of reshaping a piece
and pointing out obscure intentions.
• I haven’t incorporated this strength into the project as much
as I would of wanted to. It might of proven effective for
me to try a hot seating exercise. With questions fired at me
and I have to answer as my charger would - this my help me
to better understand the meaning behind my characters
lines. From this I can make my characters lines my own -
make it seem believable.
• In my opinion, I was confident throughout this project in my
opinions of my character. I was able to justify each acting
device involved and prove each action purposeful. Going
forward from this, a true sign of confidence is volunteering. I
need to take more risks in the upcoming project such as
volunteering. A gateway into doing this would be, using
research to inform volunteering exercises, and being
confident in the execution of voluntary work.

Weaknesses:

• I used my calendar to plan theory work/line


learning/technique practice throughout this project to space
out my work load and give myself more time to complete
work. By doing this my work is more detailed and less
rushed. In the future, I would find it vital to put in more
details of the work I am to complete in my calendar so I
don’t forget key information.
• When taking risks, I wished to use performance space more
effectively and bring a different dynamic to the audience.
This was difficult - trying to interact with a character that
wasn’t actually there. I wished to try something new. That
being said, I need to take more risks to prove my confidence
going forward. This might entail; volunteering more often,
and offering my insight during class. This proves that I am
engaging with the the content of each class.
• When it comes to networking, building my acting profile - I
am weaker in this department. But I have retained valuable
knowledge on self taping which I must provide when
reaching out to agents. This is a start to launching my ability
and putting it out there for all those to see. Now, I have to
actually start creating self tapes, because I have all the
information to do so. It would be useful to set deadlines in
my calendar to send off self tapes to agents, in the hope of
representation.
• With perfecting the performance technique of flexibility I
have discovered that basic stretches can build up one’s
flexibility. I just have to involve them in my practical
sessions. So that I remember to do so, it would be wise for
me to detail this in my calendar. Start a routine.

Opportunities:

• I have created a tool kit for actors in my preproduction


section, that I refer back to when devising my physical
theatre monologue. However, the techniques listed are the
ones classroom taught so they frequently appeared
throughout the audition week. Moving forward, I need to
research the lesser commonly used techniques, and write
them up in my toolkit. If I can then perfect them during
rehearsal, I will have a different performance visually. This
will make me stand out in an audition. My body of work will
be unique.

Threats:
• The threat of getting caught up with trying to include
physical techniques and dialogue on top of that can cause
confusion. It may even result in a loss of belief for my
monologue. A plan of action to prevent this would be to
memorise my lines earlier on, so that I can add to my
performance with limited purposeful physical techniques. I
can achieve this goal by setting deadlines within my
calendar - to ensure that my script is learnt way before the
final production. I will have plenty of time to construct
details in my performance, and gain feedback to see if my
intentions are clear.
