Start By:

a. Separate the transmission and bevel gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly,
"Transmission and Bevel Gear - Seperate".

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the disassembly procedure, the
exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt
from entering the internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by
contaminants or by dirt. Perform disassembly procedures on a clean work

1. Remove four bolts (1A).


2. Remove transmission hydraulic control valve (1B).

1. Loosen nuts (2).
2. Remove sensors (1).

5 Use Tooling (A) in order to remove retaining ring (3).

6 Remove bolts (4) and housing (5).

7 Remove ring (6) and bearing (7) from housing (5).

8 Remove springs (8), discs (9), and plates (10).

9 Remove piston (11).


10 Remove seals (12) from piston (11).

11Attach Tooling (E) and a suitable lifting device to housing assembly (13).

12 Apply slight lifting pressure.

13 Use Tooling (B) in order to compress retaining ring (14). Remove housing assembly
(13).

14 Remove retaining ring (14) and seals (15) from housing assembly (13).
Use a suitable press and Tooling (C) in order to remove ring (16).

Remove plate (17) and springs (18).


Remove housing assembly (13) from coupling (19).

Remove piston (20) from housing assembly (13).


Remove seals (21) from piston (20).

 Use Tooling (D) in order to remove retaining ring (22).


 Remove gear (23).
Remove discs (24) and plates (25).

Remove gear (26).


Remove ring (27) and plate (28).

Remove housing (29).


Remove piston (30) from housing (29).

Remove seals (31) from piston (30).

Remove plate (32) and discs (34). Remove springs (33).


Remove carrier assembly (35).

Remove ring (36) from carrier assembly (35).


Compress ring (37) in order to remove gear (38) from carrier assembly (35).

Remove ring (37) from carrier assembly (35).


 Drive pin (39A) inward in order to remove shaft (39).

Note: Pin (39A) must be replaced during assembly.

 Remove shaft (39).


 Remove gear (40) and discs (41).
 Remove bearing (42) from gear (40).
 Repeat Step 33 through Step 36 for the remaining gears.

Remove bolts (43) and housing (44).


Remove piston (45) from housing (44).

Remove seals (46) from piston (45).


 Remove plates (47) and discs (49).
 Remove springs (48).

Remove retaining ring (50).


Remove shaft (51).

 Use Tooling (D) in order to remove retaining ring (52).


 Remove gear (53) from shaft (51).
Use a suitable press in order to remove bearing (54) from shaft (51).

Remove bearings (55) from shaft (51).


Use Tooling (D) in order to remove retaining ring (56).

Remove carrier assembly (57).

Remove gear (58) from carrier assembly (57).


 Use Tooling (D) in order to remove retaining ring (59).
 Remove bearing (60) and gear (61) as an assembly.
Use a suitable press in order to remove gear (61) from bearing (60).

Remove retaining ring (59).


Compress retaining ring (62) (not shown) in order to remove carrier assembly (57) from gear (63).

Remove retaining ring (62) from carrier assembly (57).


Drive pin (64) into shaft (65) (not shown).

Note: Replace pin (64) during installation.

Remove shaft (65), gears (66), and discs (67).


 Remove bearing (68) from gears (66).
 Repeat Step 58 through Step 60 for remaining gears.

Remove plate (69) and rods (70).

Remove discs (71) and plates (72).


Remove disc (73) and carrier (74).

Remove carrier (75) from carrier (74).


Remove ring (76) from carrier (75).

Remove rings (77) from carrier (74).

Drive pin (78) into shaft (79) (not shown).

Note: Replace pin (64) during installation.


Remove shaft (79), gear (80), and discs (81).

 Remove bearing (82) from gear (80).


 Repeat Step 68 through Step 70 for remaining gears.

 Attach Tooling (E) and a suitable lifting device to shaft (83).


 Remove housing assembly (84) with shaft (83). The weight of housing assembly (84)
with shaft (83) is approximately 45 kg (100 lb).
Remove piston (85).

Remove seals (86) from piston (85).

 Use Tooling (D) in order to remove retaining ring (87) and retaining ring (88) from
housing (84).
 Remove shaft (83).
Remove seals (89).

Use a suitable press in order to remove bearing (90) from shaft (83).

Remove O-ring seal (91) from cover (92).
