Lesson Plan in Science V

Date: March 8, 2021 Time: 4:30-5:30 PM Section: 5-Venus

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. distinguish the different phases of the moon,
b. share the importance of how the moon affects life on Earth, and
c. create a “flannel board” depicting eight phases of the moon and its
description.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Phases of the Moon
Reference: Curriculum Guide S5FE-IVg-h-7
Science Concepts:
1. Movement and phases of the moon
2. Significance of moon on Earth
Science Processes: Observation
Materials: Powerpoint, video presentation, internet, flashlight, small and
medium-sized ball, recyclable materials, pen, and paper

III. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activity
A.1 Drill: Fact or Bluff
Read the sentence and decide whether it’s a Fact or Bluff!
● The moon revolves around the sun and Earth.
● The moon affects the tides of our ocean.
● The moon has its own light.
● The moon changes its shape over nighttime.
● The moon has big craters and mountains but no water, air, and
vegetation
B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation: Engage
“Who among here still go out to see the moon?”
“Have you ever wondered how the moon sheds light during nighttime?”

2. Activity Proper: Explore

2.1 “Sun-Moon-Earth model”
Prepare the needed materials:
Flashlight, two small and medium-sized ball

Preparation:
Label the medium-sized sphere as “Earth”
Label the small-sized sphere as “moon”
Label the flashlight as the “sun”
Place the two-sphere in a Moon-Earth position
Position the flashlight at the front of the “moon” and “Earth”

Observation 1:
Position in constant place the Earth and the sun
Start revolving the moon around the Earth, then
2.2 Observe its light and shadow depicted
2.3 Analyze how the moon reflects the light from the sun
2.4 Write your observations on a 1/2 sheet of paper

3. Presentation: Explain
3.1 The teacher will present a video presentation about the phases
of the moon
3.2 The teacher will discuss the different phases of the moon
3.3 Present how the moon affects the life on Earth

Questions:
“What are the different phases of the moon?”
“What will happen if there’s no moon?”
“Would you agree that the moon has a big impact on our daily lives?
Explain.”

4. Experiential Activity: Elaborate

4.1 Within 20 minutes, create a “flannel board” depicting the eight (8)
Phases of the Moon using recyclable materials and indicate some
descriptions of each phase. Then, the teacher will choose five (5) students to
show and explain their outputs. The rest will send a short video explaining
what they have learned throughout the lesson. Send it through G-mail.

After the activity, the teacher will ask the following questions:

Questions:
“What kind of recyclable materials did you use to create your flannel
board?”
“From what you have understood, does the moon change its shape?
Why or why not?”
“What have you learned best about our moon?”
