Despite being in limited length, the short essay about the Philippines by Jaeyoun
Kim manages to evoke various feelings which ultimately build up his opinion about the
situation of the country. While the lack of love in the Philippines is the center of the
essay, as a filipino youth reader it is hard not to feel markedly disappointed in my fellow
filipino. The Philippines can only be seen as a country to live rather than to love. This
does an injustice to the country, as the only catholic place in asia we are expected by
many to serve the country like how we serve our creator. It is greatly visible that we
failed to love our admirable home that made the country unprogressive thus also
signifying that we certainly have no care for our fellow filipino who’s dying in famine. It is
a shame for our country that we were highly looked up to before by our neighbour land
but now we are judged otherwise. Additionally, It is unfortunate to hear that there are
Filipinos who are willing to leave the country because of the dilemma that our society is
facing. Though there may be love that starts from somebody yet limited love is not
enough to lift one another especially if the individuals whose part in leading the
Philippines that holds more power has no love for their own country. Korean student
Jaeyoun Kim drives me as a filipino individual to work hard for the country rather than
be ashamed of it. In conclusion, the essay absolutely evokes emotions of the
Philippines position, it is the feeling of being aware of the country’s situations.
