M3 Post task: Critical Thinking

Provide at least two instances where young Jose Rizal manifested liberal ideas.

First is when Rizal himself witnessed a student protest inside the university involving a Professor Miguel
Morayta (a street in Manila was named after him), which might have inspired the arc in his El
Filibusterismo novel. he sends a letter to his family telling the event and express support for students’
call for academic freedom. Second is when Jose Rizal became a member of Freemasonry in 1883. Jose
Rizal became a member of Freemasonry in 1883 and together with other filipinos abroad they
eventually established the La Solidaridad whose aim, among many others, was to liberate the Philippines
through education. These Freemasonry groups have rituals which they call morality plays that teach
members about society, themselves, about the less fortunate, and what can they do to address the
problems of the society.

Pick two Propaganda Movement contributions and objectives you think remain very important in
today’s political climate.

From the aims of La Liga Filipina movement, two of which defense against all violence and injustice. And
mutual protection in every want and necessity. All these objectives become priority of the political
today. as political leaders actively pay attention to the issues of the county, political system that uses
programs to address the problem, and all programs which were supported by the financial, technical,
and human resources.

What was his “secret” mission during his stay in Europe? Was he able to fulfill that mission? Explain
how

Rizal's secret mission was to observe the lives, cultures, laws, and governments of the countries in
Europe, in preparation for liberating the Philippines from Spain's tyrannical rule. He went to different
countries and cities to met different people with different ideas and values. He joins the Freemason and
founding the group of Propaganda movement which involves mestizos and creoles.
