DFC Water-Based Inks & Coatings

DFC-W inks and coatings are water-based systems intended for flexographic printing. This range is polyvalent
and adheres well to several different materials for food packaging.

End application
DFC-W has been designed to comply with regulations concerning food packaging. The formulations meet EU
and FDA requirements for direct food contact application under a broad range of food types and usage
conditions.

The DFC-W range has very good adhesion to papers, cardboards, plastic films, aluminum foils and offers good
scratch resistance. However, the ink adhesion and compatibility should be checked on the desired material
before any industrial productions
DFC-W colors can be mixed together to achieve a wide variety of color shades. Resistance properties may differ
according to colors. In general, all colors show good resistance to water and greasy/oily food while some high
resistance colors can achieve excellent resistance in severe environments, such as acid and alkaline solutions,
alcohol, boiling water or high temperatures.

Printing
o Wet Coat weight: 5 – 10 cm3/m2
o Drying: IR and/or forced-air oven
o Directions for use: Stir well before use

Ink properties
o Physical properties
▪ Flexographic water-based ink &/or coating
▪ Colors: see Color Guide
▪ %solids: 40 – 60% wt.
▪ Viscosity: 20 – 30 sec. at 23°C (Ford Cup 4)
o Storage
▪ 12 months after the ship date in a closed container.
▪ Keep in a ventilated space between 5°C – 30°C.
▪ Do not expose to light.
o Packaging
▪ Pail (5 / 10 / 20 liters).

Cleaning
Drain coating from pan, rinse with water and cleaners.
Spring also supplies cleaning solutions:
o NC 32: General cleaner for water-based inks and coatings.
o SoftClean: Maintenance cleaner for anilox cylinders; effective for UV and water-based inks
and coatings.
