I. INTRODUCTION

In this study, conceptual analysis will be employed to fully comprehend the meaning of the
speaker's utterances. It will determine the speaker's main goal based on the audience's responses
and interpretations based on their word choices. The tools of conceptual analysis are one of the
main traditional methods of philosophy, arguably dating back to Plato's early dialogues. The basic
idea is that questions like 'What is knowledge?', 'What is justice?', or 'What is truth?' can be
answered solely based on one's grasp of the relevant concepts.

A good statement of the traditional conception of conceptual analysis is Grice's "Postwar Oxford
Philosophy" in Grice 1989. Unfortunately, there are not many focused discussions of the method of
conceptual analysis, which often tend to be intertwined with other philosophical issues.

The theory of conceptual analysis holds the concepts – general meanings of linguistic predicates –
are the fundamental objects of philosophical inquiry, and those insights into conceptual contents are
expressed in necessary ’conceptual truths’ (analytic propositions).

Concept analysis is a formal linguistic exercise to determine certain defining attributes. The basic
purpose of concept analysis is to clarify ambiguous concepts in a theory and to propose a precise
operational definition that reflects its theoretical base (Walker, 198 3, 27-28).

The researchers will use the data from the selected Miss Universe Contestant’s Answers to study
their utterances using the conceptual analysis.

This research paper sought to answer the following objectives:

1. Determine the themes used in the selected answers of the Miss Universe contestants.

2. Determine the meaning of the speaker’s utterances.

3. Describe the answers of selected Miss Universe contestants deeply and thoroughly.

II. METHODOLOGY

This chapter will discuss further the methods and processes that the researcher used to complete
the study. The researchers collected the data from the internet from 2010 to 2018 Miss Universe
Contestants from the PHILIPPINES. The researchers used a qualitative approach to study the
utterances in Miss Universe Contestants' answers from the Philippines by identifying the themes used
and determining the meaning using a conceptual analysis.

transcribe the texts. The followings are the selected 2010 to 2018 Miss Universe contestants from
the Philippines answers:

2018: Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray (Miss Universe winning 2018)

Question: What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your life, and how would you apply it
to your time as Miss Universe?

Answer: I work a lot in the slums of Tondo, Manila and the life there is poor and very sad. And I’ve
always taught to myself to look for the beauty of it and look in the beauty of the faces of the children
and to be grateful. And I will bring this aspect as a Miss Universe to see situations with a silver lining
and to assess where I could give something, where I could provide something as a spokesperson.
And this I think if I can teach people to be grateful, we can have an amazing world where negativity
could not grow and foster and children will have smile on their faces.

Coding: Educate people to be grateful

Theme: Serious, Positivity and Confident

Meaning: The speaker is showing confidence as portrayed in the utterance.

2016: Maria Mika Maxine Perez Medina (Miss Universe Top 6)

Question: What is the most significant change you've seen in the world in the last 10 years?

Answer: The last 10 years of being here in the world is that I saw all the people being in one event
like this in Miss Universe, and it's something big to us that we are one, as one nation, we are all
together.

Coding: Unity

Theme: Nervous and Confused

Question: "Why should you be the next Miss Universe?"

Answer: To be a Miss Universe is both an honor and responsibility. If I were to be Miss Universe, I
will use my voice to influence the youth, and I would raise awareness to certain causes like HIV
awareness that is timely and relevant to my country which is the Philippines. I want to show the
world, the universe rather, that I am confidently beautiful with a heart. Thank you.

2010: Maria Venus Bayonito Raj ( Miss Universe 4rth Runner up)

Question: What is one big mistake that you've made in your life, and what did you do to make it
right?"

Answer: In my 22 years of existence, there is nothing major, major problem that I have done in my
life, because I am very confident with my family, with the love that they are giving to me. So, thank
you so much that I'm here. Thank you, thank you so much!"

IV. CONCLUSIONS

The study shows that positivity is the main theme of the utterances. It is being portrayed more
from the selected Miss Universe candidates from the Philippines pageant. The beauty pageant
brings unity to each one, particularly to develop the confidence of women. To make a woman
stronger enough and be better of the best version of themselves. It is to raise awareness among
other women that they are capable to alter a nation and bringing people together. To become
idealized in the eyes of everyone, that one of us has the potential to grow into a more powerful
woman and competent of bringing change to any situation we are in. Subsequently, women are
proficient to build opportunities and possibilities for success.
