Assessment
How are you collecting evidence of student understanding?
How are you using that information to inform your instruction?
Summative & Formative Assessments, Performance Task(s) & Other Evidence i.e. Pre-assessments, Unit
Tests, Quizzes, Essays, Exit Cards, etc.
Pre-assessment: I plan to discuss new sight words with the students and see if they can recognize the new
words.
Formative Assessment: I plan to use the worksheets to determine if my students are understanding the
material.
Summative Assessment: I plan to use flashcards to assess the students’ understanding of the content.
To ensure my students understand the lesson I will use a repetitive instruction style, this will allow them to
hear the new sight words multiple times and understand how they are pronounced and how to write the
words correctly.
Lesson Plan:
The reading lesson will begin with a brief description of what we will be going over for the day. I will
introduce the new sight words to the students by showing them flash cards and reading them in a
sentence.
Then I will play the “Pat the Cat” read Aloud video. After the video, I will ask the students which sight
words they heard throughout the video.
Next, we will complete the sight word fluency worksheets. I will read the sentences out loud alone first.
Then have the students read them with me. After reading through each sentence, I will have the
students circle the correct sight word in each sentence.
To give the students a break from their seats I will play the sight words Jack Hartmann video.
After the video we will begin practicing handwriting the each of the sight words we covered.
The students will also have the opportunity to color their worksheet.
To review previously covered sight words and assess which words the students remember I will hold up
flash cards and have the students repeat them to me.
Lesson Closure(s):
I will close the lesson with a review of all the sight words the students have learned.
Formative Assessment:
I will be checking students’ worksheets to see if the properly pick out the correct sight word in each sentence and
if they can properly write each word.
