What are buffers?

It is a solution that is able to resist a change in pH over a given pH

range. Buffers are made up of a weak acid or a weak base and its
conjugate salt. It is able to neutralize small amounts of added acid or
base, thus maintaining the pH of the solution relatively stable.

What is the difference between pH and pOH?

The difference is that pH is a measure of how acidic or basic a solution

is and the relative amount of free hydrogen and hydroxyl ions in the
water. Its measurement ranges from 0 to 14, with <7 being acidic, =7
being neutral and >7 being basic.

While pOH is a measure of hydroxide ion concentration, it is used to

express the alkalinity of a solution. It is the counterpart of pH where its
measurement ranges from 0 to 14 but with <7 being basic, =7 being
neutral and >7 being acidic.
