1.DESCRIBE THE FOLLOWING OPTICAL INSTRUMENTS.

 SIMPLE MICROSCOPE
A simple microscope is a magnifying glass that has a double convex lens with a
short focal length i.e. hand lens and reading lens.
When an object is kept near the lens, then its principal focus with an image is
produced, which is erect and bigger than the original object.

 COMPOUND MICROSCOPE
A compound microscope is a microscope that uses multiple lenses to enlarge the
image of a sample.
 PROJECTOR
A projector is an instrument used to produce a large image of a small object .i.e.
one can use a projector to show a presentation on a large screen so that
everyone in the room can see it.
 CAMERA
A camera is an optical instrument that captures visual image
It has a small hole [the aperture] that allows light in to capture on image on light
sensitive surface. [photographic film]
2.Describe the following phenomenon of light

 DIFFRACTION
Diffraction is the spreading out of waves as they pass through an aperture or
around objects.
Diffraction takes place with sound; with electromagnetic radiations such as light
rays and gamma rays; and with very small moving particles such as atoms,
neutrons and electrons, which show wave like properties.
 Interference
Interference is the net effect of the combination of two or more wave trains
moving on intersecting or coincident paths. An example is by the light reflected
from a film of oil floating on water.
