Material : Watching and Listening short film

Strategy: Problem Based Learning

Method : Audio Visual (short film)

The teacher opens the class with greetings and asks the class leader to lead the
prayer. After finishing, the teacher conveyed the activities in class that today was
listening and watching short stories. The teacher conveys the learning objectives,
namely to improve students' listening skills.

The method used in this class is the audiovisual method. Because the teacher uses
short films in English and without subtitles as a medium for learning listening in
class, in order to achieve learning objectives well.

The teacher explains that the students will watch a short film. After watching, the
teacher will give quizzes to students related to the film to see whether the students
understand the film or not. At the end of the quiz, the teacher will ask students to
write down the moral message of the film.

After explaining the activities to be carried out, the teacher provided an focus for
showing Amelia Bedelia's film "First day of school". The film is without subtitles.
Before watching, the teacher invites students to relax first. Students are invited to play
a compact suit game so that students feel happier before doing the task.
After that, the teacher asked the students to watch with focus. Students may write
the main outline of the film. Movies are shown and students watch carefully. After the
film was finished, the teacher asked the students whether the students had understood
the film? If students answer no, the teacher can play the film again. After the students
finished watching, the teacher asked the students to prepare their exercise books. The
teacher explains the quiz rules. The teacher gives 5 questions related to the film. Then,
the teacher gave the quiz questions to the students. Each 1 question, students are
asked to answer immediately with a duration of 3 minutes. After that, the teacher
moves on to the next question. Up to the last question. After the questions were
completed, the teacher asked the students to write down the moral message of the
film. Then the teacher asks students to collect all their exercise books, and the teacher
evaluates their work.

In assessing their work, the teacher gives rewards to students who get good grades.
The teacher writes "Excellent" in the exercise book for students who get perfect
scores. The teacher writes "Good", for students who get scores above the standard of
assessment. Like the value 80.

Teachers can make assessments as follows:

• Excellent (90-100) : In identifying main ideas, general information, and specific


information.

• Very Good (89-80) : Very good at identifying main ideas, general information,
and specific information. Demonstrate good ability to infer implied information

• Good (79-70) : Good at identifying main ideas, general and specific information.

• Average (69-60) : Still able to identify main ideas, general information, and
specific information.

• Poor (59 or Below) : Unable to identify main ideas, general and specific
information.
From this assessment, the teacher can find out whether the listening learning is
successful or not. If it does not work, the teacher can change the learning methods and
strategies to make it easier for students to improve students' listening skills.
