Strategy Awareness & Explanation (Purpose for selecting the strategy)

How will provide students with a clear picture of the why and how?
I chose questions, predicting and summarizing because it holds an important role in how
poetry defines an era.

Guided Practice
How will you have students practice the strategy with support?
Guided reading that

I plan on guiding students by asking them guiding questions and then providing them
examples on how to question, summarize, and predict. After each stanza I will
encourage the students to share their thoughts and ideas, while I walk around to check
their markings.

Strategy Application
How will students apply the strategy independently?

Students will apply their poem markings independently but as a class will share and
dialogue about their ideas on each stanza.

Reflection Write a 2-3 paragraph detailed reflection about your teaching experience based off your
own self-assessment.
● How did the structure (awareness & explanation, demonstration & modeling, guided practice,
application) help support your instruction and student learning?
● How does this strategy support learning in your discipline specifically?
● What were your strengths, and areas for growth (please consider both your planning and your
instruction of the strategy).

The structure helped support my student learning by modeling what I expect from my student leaving
no room for confusion.it also aids in their awareness of what we are reading and why it is important. It
was a mix of guided practice and application. It was the best option for showing students how to mark
up poetry and finding the message it's trying to convey.

This strategy is supportive in my discipline because students need guided practice on how to consume
different mediums. My strength was the questions and predicting because that is important in poetry.
It is beneficial to my students since this is a strategy they will carry for all of their lives.
