Exile of Rizal in Dapitan

Gat. Jose Rizal is man of valor, he is a brilliant, compassionate, courageous

and a patriot; Rizal in his early years he have witnessed and experienced the

oppression and cruelty brought by the Spanish colonization as well as the

maltreatment of the friars to the Filipinos. Rizal seeks for knowledge to extinguish

the ill-treatment of the Spanish regime he traveled many countries to gain

information and experiences to expand Rizal’s knowledge and express it through

his works to ignite the awareness of the Filipinos.

One of Rizal’s momentous event when he was exile in Dapitan, in there he

was given a chance to choose whether to stay in the parish or at the place of

Captain Ricardo Carnicero; Rizal refused the offer of the Father Pablo Pastells for

the reason that there were conditions to be made for him to lived there and these
conditions were contrary to Rizal’s beliefs therefore, he was brought at Captain

Ricardo Carnicero’s house and they become good friends. The authorities did not

demant full control over Rizal’s activities during his exile. He was free to do

whatever he wanted to do however it should be done only in Dapitan.

While Rizal in Dapitan, he built a house, school, hospital and water system.

He also improves the agricultural state of Dapitan as he created projects for

agricultural purposes. During of Rizal’s stay in Dapitan, he met Josephine Bracken,

Rizal’s last lover. Josephine came to the Philippines from Hong Kong for the

reason that Josephine’s father has eye disease and Rizal was referred to cure his

father’s illness. Jose Rizal and Josephine Bracken met and fell in love with each

other, by the time Josephine and her father about to go back to Hong Kong he

stay back in Dapitan to prove her love to Rizal.

The life of Rizal in Dapitan was simple and memorable, he was loved by the

people for Rizal is a humble and courteous man, he offered help to the citizens,

he served them and live with them; and from there he found his love of life and

made his last moments as lovely and significant.

Therefore, Gat. Jose Rizal did not weaver even in his last moments, his

sense of justice and patriotism showed in his deeds, he served the people and
even establish mutual understanding to his observers, this is really an evidence

how truly admirable our Hero Dr. Jose Rizal was, that even the considered

enemies themselves was captivated by the wondrous deeds that Rizal have

brought.
