REACTION PAPER

After watching the webinar, I learned that we, as students, have a part to play in
conserving and safeguarding the environment, as well as making it a better place for us to live. I
was enlightened by Ma’am Annemarie David, the webinar’s speaker, who spoke out particularly
about the current state of forestry and water resources. People consume resources on a regular
basis, and resource preservation is not yet a habit. As a result, the Earth’s function is
deteriorating, and temperatures in such countries are slowly rising, resulting in climate change.

Natural disaster such as flashfloods, landslides and global warming are becoming more
common as a result of what people do in their communities. Garbage dumping in rivers and
oceans, illegal logging or excessive tree cutting, “Kaingin”, and many other practices are prevalent
in our society and contribute to disasters. Also, yes, there are laws in place to protect our
environment, but they are not well-enforced, which is why those actions continue to take place
in various parts of the world. I’m depressed and angry at what other people do to our
environment, and I feel like I’m to fault because I don’t do anything to help save our Mother
Earth’s environment.

Departments of the government and other groups can work together to ensure that the
laws are followed. Organizing an event such as tree planting or clean-up drive can also aid in the
maintenance and preservation of our ecosystem. Furthermore, we may use social media
platforms as young students to encourage others and provide knowledge about the 3R’s and 5s.
But it’s important to remember that hashtags can’t plant trees or tweets can’t clean the oceans;
we need to take action to make it happen.

REACTION PAPER

A hazard is something that has the potential to cause harm. Substances, events, or
circumstances can be considered risks if their nature allows them to do harm to health, life,
property, or any other valuable interest, even if only theoretically. As I listened to the first
speaker, I realized that we need to analyze the situation by evaluating how dangerous it is to
perform such a work or be exposed to that hazard. Then we must address the hazard so that no
one else is exposed to it after you. Furthermore, the Philippines is located on the Pacific Ring of
Fire, a region prone to natural calamities. Natural disasters include earthquake, flash floods,
landslides, typhoons and may others. Furthermore, the council should have a strategy or steps in
place to protect us from harm and save us at all costs in order to have zero casualties and little
community damage.

The speaker extensively conveyed her information about the said issue in the second
portion of the webinar. Drugs can alter one’s life, particularly its mental, physical, social, and
emotional aspects. Drugs, like hazards, are prevalent in this time. Drugs are chemical substances
that can change how your body works. They include prescription medicines, over-the-counter
medicines, tobacco, and illegal drugs. I felt sorry for those people who misused or overused drugs
without realizing the negative impact on their lives and health. Family problems, anxiety,
depression, or curiosity can all be reasons why someone uses illegal drugs or misuses and
overuses them. The Philippine government is doing everything it can to prevent or reduce the
number or persons who use, misuse, or overuse these medicines. Other people who don’t know
enough about this subject should be informed of the impact it has on people’s lives and health.

I feel grateful for attending these webinars for the reason that it tackled the timeliest
matter in our society and thankful to the organizers and the university for having this kind of
online discussion. As a college student, it is useful for us especially that we are in a stage where
we open our minds towards these problems of the society where we can take an action to help
make our society better to live in.
