2. List down equipment, areas or sections that can be found in the community pharmacy that are commonly found in all
pharmacies. In what activities or functions are they being used? How vital are they in the pharmacy operation?

EQUIPMENT FUNCTION/S
1. Telephone line, internet access, fax printer These tools are necessary for patient communication and
other healthcare professional interaction.
2. Computerized system (cash register, inventory, and This system can be convenient and efficient in tracking sales
stock control) and stocks in the pharmacy.
3. Suitable containers (glass, plastic, bags, etc.) For the provision of safe and appropriate supply of
medicinal products.
4. Equipment for extemporaneous dispensing (weighing For extemporaneous medicinal products to be dispensed

5. Labelling equipment Adequate labelling is necessary to avoid confusion and
mix-ups, and to ensure the clarity and legibility of the

and corrected. And for tracking the items coming in and out
of the establishment.
10. Stock cabinets and shelves For keeping and displaying the products available in the
pharmacy.
AREAS/SECTIONS FUNCTION/S
1. Patient consultation area A separate, designated area for the pharmacist and patient to
have a private discussion on matters regarding their
medicine therapy or general health.
2. Compounding section A designated area for preparing prescription medicines that
are needed to be compounded.

3. Staff area Staff areas and facilities are available to cater the staff’s
personal matters and needs.
4. Storage area Enough storage space is allocated to allow the orderly
management of stock and effective stock rotation.
5. Dispensing area An area where customers will be attended and given the
medicine they need.
6. Waiting area An area where customers can wait for their turn to be
attended.
7. Cashier area This is where the customers will pay for their purchase.
8. Pharmacist’s office This is where the pharmacist work on necessary documents and paperworks.
