DESCRIBING OBJECT
A. Study the dialogue below. Read, discuss and if necessary practice the
dialogue!
Dialog 1
A : Have you seen my water bottle? Yesterday I forgot to take it home.
B : What are the characteristics of your water bottle?
A : My bottle is transparent blue with pictures of green leaf. My bottle also
has my name sticker on it.
B : Sorry, I don't think I've seen him since I got to class this morning.
Maybe you can ask our school janitor.
A : Yes, that's a great idea. Thank you.
Dialog 2
A : What do you usually do after school?
B : I will change clothes in my room, and then eat together with my brother
and sister in the dining room, and then we will watch television in the
living room.
A : Wow, same with me. After watching television, I usually go to my room
to take a nap.
B : Yes, same with me too. What time do you study and do your
homework?
A : I usually do homework and other schoolwork after dinner in my room.
Task: Provide a picture of certain object and try to describe that object in
detail. The following is the example of ‘my house’ description!
My House
This is my house. My parents, brother, sister and I live there. The color of the roof is
dark brown and the wall color is white. There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms,
one kitchen, a dining room and a living room. We like to spend time in the living room.
We usually watch TV or movies there after dinner. Backyard is my favorite place. My
siblings and I love playing in the backyard. We have a swing and a trampoline there. I
love my house.

B. How to Describe Things in English
Sometimes you have to describe things in English. You can use different
words to make such descriptions. You can describe things based on: Material,
Shape, Opinion, Color, Size, Age. Make sure to check the examples to understand
more about how to use that vocabulary in context.
