Lab Exercise 1 – Part 1
Fall 2021

You are the production team of MASA Company. The aim of the company is to produce planes
of first class. Your mission as a production team is to determine the cycle time for the manual
plane assembly operation, number of workstations and the task assignment to each worker. For
this purpose, you are expected to perform a time study for this task.

1. You should break down the task into 6 work elements (if your group has less than 6
members, then break down the task into # of members many work elements), describe
each work element and draw the precedence diagram.

2. Determine the cycle time by charging only one operator for the whole process. For the
estimation, let every member of the team assemble the plane 2 times and calculate the
average of 12 repetitions (if your group has less than 6 members, then you should
perform the repetitions 2 * # of members times). Fill out Table 1 for this system.

The second part of the lab will be based on your findings in the first part, it will be held next
weeks.
