Working:: (Air Circuit Breaker)
Working:: (Air Circuit Breaker)
Working:
Air circuit breaker operate with their contacts in free air and quenching an arc
The device used to provide overcurrent, short circuit, under voltage, over
voltage and earth fault protection for electrical circuits
These are usually used in low voltage application below 450 volts
ACB parts:
Fixed contact
Moving contact
Arc chute
Micrologic relay
Spring charge motor
Shunt coil (or) open coil
Close coil
Undervoltage coil
ACB settings:
The electronic protection installed in acb and internally connected with “current transformer”
In = nominal current
Ir = long time
Isd = short time
Ig = earth fault
Ii = instantaneous current
Io = over current
Longtime (Ir) current setting: nominal current (In)* percentage of load (0.4 (40%) to 1 (100%))
For example: In = 5000A, Ir = 5000 * 0.8, Ir = 4000A (time delay for long time setting in seconds)
Short time (Isd) current setting: long time current (Ir) * percentage setting (1.5 to 10)
For example: Ir = 4000A, Isd = 4000 * 1.5, Isd = 6000A (time delay for short time setting in milli-
seconds)
Earth fault (Ig) current setting: nominal current (In) * percentage setting (0.3 to 1)
For example: In = 5000A, Ig = 5000A * 0.1, Ig = 500A (time delay for earth fault setting in milli-
seconds)
Instantaneous (Ii) current setting: nominal current (In) * percentage setting (2 to 15)
For example: In = 5000A, Ii = 5000 * 10, Ii = 50,000A (time delay for instantaneous setting in milli-
seconds)
Ir = 0.8%(4000A), tr = 0.5s
Ig = 0.1%(500A), tg = 0.1s
An undervoltage coil has to have a voltage applied to it, to enable the supply removed from
it (or) loss of power occurs automatic to trip a circuit breaker.
Close coil:
Close coil provides remote ON of breaker when UV coil and spring charged.
Spring charge motor is used to charge a spring by electrically when it gets charged
automatically cut off power supply to motor by NO and NC contacts.
