A.4.1. Environmental Issues in the Philippines

It should come as no surprise that environmental challenges are

among the most pressing issues we face today. We are constantly confronted
with a slew of calamities and issues that affect our daily lives and are deeply
based in our environmental concerns. This emphasizes the importance of
educating people about our environment and raising awareness about it. After
the coronation of duterte as the president of the Philippines, he made
environmental protection as a top priority. Even though he made the
environmental protection as one of the top priority for campaign, the things that
he is planning to do is not making a big impact on the environment. A good
example of this is the Manila Bay, at first, the outcome of the project was deemed
good. But, as times pass by, the consequences of not being able to think about
the project backfired. Most of the dolomite was washed away because of the
natural disaster that came. Which made the project that was worth 389 million
pesos to look like a million pesos project.

According to Cali (2010), “Laws

on  Environmental  Protection are  important  since it has a significant effect on
human health, well-being of humans, and to the ecosystem”. If we do not take
action, who will protect our environment? Environmental protection permits us
to live in a safe environment free of any pollutants or risks that we might
introduce. Our health and the health of our country are both endangered by a
filthy environment. Being able to look after our environment implies that we will
have a better chance of surviving in the natural world, which includes pollen,
dangerous plants and insects, viruses and bacteria, and other creatures
contending for food and land. Environmental protection helps future generations
of humanity to develop and survive without having to rely on whatever we have
done to poison the environment in which we live and work. Because all living
things have preferred zones of the environment, it is difficult to disregard the
environment without caring for it. Indeed, the Lord has provided a diverse
environment for all living things on the world. Even though the environment can
exist in its natural form, human interference has wreaked havoc on many
ecosystems. We must protect our ecosystem so that we can continue to live in a
healthy and secure environment on our planet.

There is a negative effect that modernization brings to our

environment. Modernization comes with energy-intensive equipment that
contributes to air pollution and climate change. Another unfavorable impact is
(potentially) on our culture. Traditional societies' social bonds are broken down as
a result of modernization.
