General Food habits to be followed
 Generally the dieting restrictions are given for the diseases and not for the Siddha and Ayurveda
medicines. Siddha and Ayurveda medicines will not cause any side effects.
 Patients taking Siddha and Ayurveda drugs can also take medicine from other system for diseases such
as Diabetes, Heart diseases, thyroid, B.P etc., there will be not any drug interaction.
 Salt (during cooking or on the table), Sour and spiciness in the food must be reduced.Agathikeerai,
bitter gourd, plantain, potato, fried items, non – veg, egg, frozen food, butter, cheese, ghee,
panneer,packed – tinned – bottled food, hotel food, fast food, artificial flavors, artificial- rasa podi,
sambarpodi, masala podi, ajinomoto should be avoided.
 Deep fried foods, appalam, vathral, vadaam, samosa, cutlet, bajji, bonda, pickles.Pappads, Cheese,
Salted chips, Nuts, Popcorn and Biscuits
 Avoid bakery items, junk foods, creams, chocolates, Carbonated Drinks, Cold Drinks, breads, buns, jam,
Jelly, Marmalades, Sweets, Pastries, Pizzas, Burgers, sauce, ketchup are to be avoided.
 Add garlic, pepper, cumin seeds, asafoetida, aniseed, cinnamon, coriander, elaichi, cloves, curry leaves,
ginger to your food.
 Non veg including egg has to be generally avoided as it may become heavy for digestion.
 Maida can be completely avoided as it contains many chemicals including Alloxen which causes
diabetes, wheat can be purchased raw and can be ground at a nearby mill to avoid preservatives and
chemical in packed flours.
 Baking powder and soda bicarbonate which are added to cakes and pastries
 Sodium benzoate potassium metabisulphite which are added as preservatives in Pickles, Squashes and
Canned foods,
 Instant coffee Chocolate and cocoa powder.
 Your food has to be a combination of all the 6 tastes generally. The Bitter taste and Astringent tastes
are the medically valued tastes as they have the capacity to prevent and eradicate diseases but
practically these tastes are ignored mostly.
 Generally your stomach has to be filled 1/3rd with food, 1/3rd with water and 1/3rd with air.

 Keeping yourself hydrated is essential. You (a normal adult of 60+ kg) may need to take atleast 2.5 to 3
litres of water (preferably warm) typically in coastal regions like Chennai to be active and hydrated.
Enormous (more than a glass of water just before or during or just after your main food will lead to
excess dilution of food and there may be a delay in the digestion leading to acidity, gas, reflux etc,
hence taking considerable amount of water has to be atleast half an hour after your food.
 Regarding other fluids, a glass of buttermilk (200ml) can be taken daily to beat the heat in a typical
tropical climate like ours. People with sedentary work patterns may need to avoid frequent
kanji/koozhu in the mornings. Instead of juices, taking fruits (chewing them) is always better for
digestion. Teas and coffees with milk can be avoided and instead a cup of diluted milk (without sugar)
can be taken in the morning and evening. During day time it is better to have sukku coffee / sukkumalli
tea / vara coffee / kattaanchai.
 Concentrating on food and eating consciously, chewing well and slowly without getting distracted by
speaking, watching tv, cellphone, is essential for good digestion and assimilation.
 Kambu, Thinai, MakkaCholam, cholam, varagu, Kuthiraivaali, Kelvaragu has to be taken equally as rice.
 Raagi is essential in our food for a tropical climate like India to meet fibre requirements, Calcium etc.
Raagi can be taken as Kali/Adai/Dosai/Paniyaram/ Idiyappam/Puttu/Kozhukattai as the nutrition value
is preserved in all forms of Raagi food.
 Virgin Sesame Oil is the best of all to season/cook foods and virgin groundnut / Peanut oils / coconut
oils can be used once a while for deep frying and making savories.
 Groundnut Burfi / PorulvilangaUrundai / Paruppurundai / Ellurundai/ NavadhanyaUrundai are best for
kids instead of depending on commercially made biscuits / snacks.
 Sleep / go to bed only when the food gets digested at stomach which may need atleast 2 hours hence
there has to be gap of atleast 2 hours between major food and sleep.
 Afternoon sleep / sleeping immediately after taking food has to be completely avoided.
 Induppu is good to include in your food instead of Table Salt. Replace Sugar with Palm Jaggery
(processed with sukku/milagu/thippli) and palm sugar.
 Use Asafoetida cakes instead of the powder as it contains more percentage of maida.
 Avoid plastics / aluminum utensils / non stickcookwares and micro wave ovens for cooking and storing.
 Use refrigerator mainly for raw vegetables / fruits and keep the curd and milk in air tight containers
inside the fridge as there are more chances of contamination of milk / curd inside the fridge.
 Brisking walking helps you to activate every cell, tissue, muscle and organ of the body and hence has to
be definitely followed atleast 30 hours a month.
 Yoga and Pranayama can be followed regularly to regulate your metabolism increase the oxygen
content and make you energetic and charged.

ALLERGY
 Food such as milk, egg, ground nut, wheat, fish, shell fish, soya, Prawns, Crab, Mushrooms contains
certain type of protein which may cause allergy.
 Kids may get allergy due to chocolates. So it is necessary to find out allergic foods and avoid it.
 Before using packed food items go through the label to find out whether there are any allergic
ingredients in it.
FOR SKIN DISEASE PATIENTS
 Brinjal, tomato, sour fruits (Citric fruits), Groundnut oil, Groundnut, Non-Veg, Egg Should be avoided.
 Use hot water for bath. Use groundnut and mung dal powder or heritage bath powder for bath.
 Neem leaves, bengal gram, green gram, lemon etc can be dried in shade, powdered and can be used as
external application over skin during bath.
 Beauty products, scent must be avoided as they might give allergic reaction to the skin.
 Shampoo, oils and hair dye containing chemical substances will not only damage the hair and scalp but
also cause allergic reaction to the skin of upper back due to the friction of hair.
 Nylon dress may cause allergy so use cotton dress. Clothes and undergarments have to be washed
daily. Under garments should be properly washed and dried under sunlight.
FOR FREQUENT COLD / SINUSITIS / ASTHMA PATIENTS
 Avoid Ridge gourd (peergankai), Radish (Mullangi), Snake gourd (Pudalangai), Ash gourd (Poosanigai),
Bottle gourd (Surakkai), Plantain gourd (Vazaithandu), spinach stem(Keeraithandu), water melon
(Dharboosani), musk melon (Keerani), guava, banana , tomato, ladies finger, tender coconut (Elaneer),
Ice Cream, Butter milk, Curd, Oily fried foods.
 Red rice, horse gram, wheat, barley, honey, paruppukeerai, snake guard, brinjal, garlic, dates,
cardamom can be taken.
 Include lot of turmeric and dry ginger, pepper in food as they are good natural anti inflammatory
foods.
 Don’t expose yourself to rain, dew, dust, smoke, don’t use shikakai powder, avoid oil bath.
 Avoid sleeping directly under fan. Air conditioning to keep relative humidity low(<50%) can be kept in
summer. Ac filters must be cleaned frequently. AC can be used in temperature of 25-29C. Not below
that.
 People having dust and pollen allergy must wear face mask.
 Beds, pillow covers, and blankets must free from dust.
 Hairs of pet animals may cause allergy so keep away from them.
 Cleaning/dusting home, smoke of mosquito coils/liquidators / agarbathi smoke has to be avoided.
 Instead of chilli, pepper has to be used as much as possible in your food.
 Room coolers will definitely increase the breathing difficulty.

 Aspirin, sulphides, NSAIDS, tartrazine coated tablets and also in food should be avoided.
 Dinner must be taken before 8pm.
 It is advisable to wear skimask/scarf in cold weather.
 Pranayamam can be done with proper guidance.
 Steam can be done as per physician advice.

ACNE AND HAIRFALL DIET


 Avoid milk, creamsand chocolates for acne.
 Avoid constipation by taking fibre food such as spinach, plantains, curry leaves, bottle guard etc.
 Avoid stress and anxiety which exacerbate acne and Hairfall.
 Avoid exposure to dirt.
 If acne is on the back, shoulders or chest, try wearing loose clothing to let the skin breathe. Avoid tight
garments, such as headbands, caps, and scarves, or wash them regularly if used.
 Keep hair clean, as it collects sebum and skin residue.
 Don’t scrub the skin and squeeze pimples
 Avoid greasy hair products and Oil-based cosmetic use
 Wash your face more than twice each day with warm water and mild herbal soap made especially for
acne.
 Nuts, legumes, zinc(lentils, pumpkin seeds, apple, papaya) and vitamin A and E rich foods, are
beneficial to skin and reduce the inflammation.
 Vitamin E rich foods(spinach, almonds, fish etc) are good for black pigmentation on the skin and
prevent from blemishes.
 Include dry fruits, nuts, green leafy vegetables, curry leaves, drumstick leaf, sprouts,amla, egg and
whole grains to strengthen the hair.
 Iron and Vitamin e rich foods(spinach,almonds, fish etc) to improve the hair growth.
 Keep separate towels, pillow covers, comb etc.
 Use herbal powder/ packs like green gram, Bengal gram and fresh fruits to the skin and use natural
herbal packs, herbal shampoos to strengthen your hair and prevent from grey hair.
FOR DIABETES PATIENTS
 Generally, more urination (specifically in the nights), more appetite, more thirst, weight loss, burning
feet / numb feet are the symptoms of elevated sugar levels, consult the doctor if you experience any of
these.
 Giddiness / fatigue are symptoms of low sugar generally. Consult a physician immediately.
 Sweet, fruits with sugar content, potato, porridge, juices, carbohydrate should be avoided. Fruits such
as Orange, Mosambi, Pomegranate, Papaya, Guava and Apple can be taken, avoid juices of these fruits.

 Soak fenugreek in water during night and take 1 spoon every morning in empty stomach.
 Add Kovakkai (ivy gourd) to your diet daily in any form like sabji, kootu, Poriyal, salad, sambar etc.
 Sweetness in any form has to be avoided such as Honey, Jaggery, Palm Jaggery, Palm Sugar, Country
Sugar, Brown Sugar, Jam etc. Better to avoid artificial sweeteners too.
 Biscuits such as Marie lite, Nutrichoice, oats biscuits, butter milk, sugar less lime juice, sugar less coffee
and sugar less tea can be taken.
 Non – veg such as mutton, egg yolk, prawn, crab should be avoided. Fish and chicken cooked with
gravy can be taken occasionally without skin.
 Mango, Grapes, Banana, Pineapple, Pista, Cashew, Badam, Alcohol, Curd, Sugarcane, Palmyra fruit,
Thadiyangaai have to be definitely avoided.
 Tender coconut, beverages, ice creams should be avoided. All green vegetables can be taken
frequently.
 Fasting and Feast both have to be avoided.
 Being obese is directly linked with uncontrolled sugars so always try to reduce excess weight. Daily 30
minutes of walking is must and 20 minutes of moderate exercises have to be followed.
 Foot care is very essential in diabetes, keep your feet dry, clean and hygienic always and if you happen
to get any wounds in foot, take all means to heal it as soon as possible.

PAINDIET
 Avoid Potato, unripe banana, lentils, sprouts, Non vegetarian foods including egg, coffee, white sugar
which increases pain sensitivity, pumpkin, bottle guard, cucumber, ridge guard, snake guard, legumes,
horse gram, palm fruit, black gram (urad dhal), mustard etc
 Reduce sour and spicy foods and salt to prevent water retention.
 In Gout / Increased Uric Acid, avoid Chikku (Sapota), Custard Apple (Sitaphalam), Mushroom, Green
Peas, Brinjal, Cauliflower, Palak, Beans, Dals& Pulses, Yeast and Non Vegetarian foods like Red Meat,
Fish, Chicken, Shell Fish, Organ Meats (Brain, Liver, Kidney)
Include
 Include more red gram(thuvarai), vegetables like brinjal, flat beans(avarai) and fig
 Include more spinach like araikeerai, mudakkathan,thuthuvelai,ponangkanniin your food.
 Generally take warm water for drinking as well as bathing.
 All green vegetables and fruits(if diabetic avoid sweet fruits) can be taken frequently.
 Drink milk 200 ml/day.
 Foods rich in calcium, phosphorus, Vitamin D like milk, Raagi, Greens, rice bran, sesame seeds, horse
gram, flax seeds, almond, barley, corn.
 Include lot of turmeric and dry ginger in food as they are good natural anti inflammatoryfoods.
 Do regular and gentle exercise and maintain flexibility of involved joints but avoid lifting heavy objects
and driving two as well as four wheelers.
 If you can, apply oil and put a moist-heat pack on your affected part for 20 minutes before you start
exercising. Heat is soothing and it also brings the blood to the surface, decreases stiffness, and
sometime relieves pain.
 Early morning exposure to sun (incase your VitD3 has gone down) preferably after applying the oil.
 Do not sleep in floor, always use cot with considerably hard mattress. Cot without mattress can be used.
 Reduce weight and Don’t lean while standing, stand on both legs balanced, maintain posture.
 Do Meditation to avoid stress as stress increases pain sensitivity.
 If specifically back pain – wear low heeled shoes, sleep on sides, avoid soft mattress (bed) over cot.
 If in case using computers, the chair should have lumbar support and the monitor should be placed at a
height that the neck and back are not much bent while working. Avoiding sitting continuously for more
than half an hour
 Quit smoking and carbonated drinks and alcohol. They reduce the blood flow to bones and thereby
make them degenerate.
Neck pain – always do neck exercise in sitting posture.

 Neck rotation  Slowly turn your head to the right, keeping your chin straight and hold this position for 5
to 10 seconds, then return to centre. Do same as opposite side repeat this for 5 times.
 While you focus on your neck, don’t neglect your shoulders. Exercising your shoulders will also
strengthen the muscles that support your neck. Shoulder rolls are a basic, easy exercise to keep your
shoulder and neck joints fluid.
 If you may feel a little discomfort when you first try a new exercise, but you should never feel pain. If
any movement hurts, pain/ weakness stop and consult the physician.
Low back exercise
 Lie down face down with your arms, close to yur body, lift your both legs at angle of 30° with bending
your knee and hold it for 5 sec and bring it slowly down, do this for 5 times, slowly increase the time
reputation.
 Lie down face down with both your arm to your body and legs together, slowly bring up the upper
body(trunk) and hold it for 5 sec if needed you can support with your hands, do it for 5 times.
Knee exercise
 Lie on your back on the floor or another flat surface. Bend one knee and place your foot flat on the
floor. Keeping the other leg straight, raise it to the height of the opposite knee. Repeat 10-15 times for
three sets.
 Sit on with both legs out straight. Stabilize yourself with your hands on either side of your hips, and
keep your back straight. Slowly bend one knee until it feels stretched, but not until it becomes painful.
Hold your leg in that position for 5 seconds, then slowly straighten your leg out as far as you can, again
holding for 5 seconds. Do it for 10 minutes.
 Mild discomfort during exercise is normal. But if you experience severe pain, swelling or stiffness, stop
exercising the affected joint and consult your doctor.
HYPERTENSION AND CHOLESTEROL
 Low calorie, Low fat, Low sodium diet with normal protein intake is prescribed
Foods to be included
 Whole grains like rice, wheat,Bajra, Barley, oats and Ragi.
 Pulses like Moongdhal, Tuvar Dhal and Urad dhal (whole and split)
 Vegetables: All Guards and melons like Ridge gourd (peergankai), Snake gourd (Pudalangai), Ash gourd
(Poosanigai), Bottle gourd (Surakkai), Plantain gourd (Vazaithandu), water melon (Dharboosani), musk
melon (Keerani), yam and Radish (Mullangi), spinach stem (Keeraithandu), knolkhol, chow chow,
Lettuce, cucumber-only cooked, banana, tomato-only cooked, ladies finger, onion /celery/ broccoli-
only cooked, spinach, lady’s fingers, palak and all green leafy vegetables.
 Restricted amount of spices and condiments.
 Fruits like Amla, Kerala Banana (steamed), Cherries, Sweet Grapes, Papaya, Apple, Pomegranate.

 Dry fruits- Dates and Raisins. Almonds help to bring out the bad cholesterol by increasing the good
cholesterol.
 Skimmed Milk and Butter milk.
 The quantity of oil used for cooking can be limited. Oil can be used only for seasoning
Foods to be avoided

 Follow all the diet mentioned under the general diet heading in the first page
 Tamarind, Curd and any citrus fruits and Frozen peas
 Baking powder and Soda bi carbonate which are added to cakes and pastries.
 Soya chunks , Soya granules and tofu
 Vegetables like Cabbage, Brinjal, Cauliflower, Potato, sweet Potato, Tapioca and Mushroom
OBESITY
All the diet and restrictions under the general diet and that of Hypertension has to be followed.
 Low calorie, Low fat particularly low saturated fat, low cholesterol, high in poly unsaturated fatty acid,
highfibre diet,low carbohydrate and normal protein minerals and vitamins are suggested.
 Avoid Tubers, Groundnut, cashews, coconut milk, fresh coconuts, banana and potato.
 One should avoid intake of too much salt. Salt may be a factor for increasing the body weight.
 Milk products like cheese, butter, ghee, ice cream should be avoided because these are rich in fat.
 Meat (especially red meat of lamb / pork / beef) and non-vegetarian foods should also be avoided.
 Avoid sleeping in day time, don’t skip breakfast.
 Do not drink water immediately after meals. Drink it before food or after half an hour. Try to drink
warm water.
 'Horse gram'–Horse gram forms an excellent remedy in obesity. Take 100 gm of horse gram roast it
mildly and soak it in 1lt of water for a night. Next day morning boil the soaked horse gram till the
water evaporates from 4 parts to 1 part (i.e. Water:horse gram ratio must be 1:1 after boiling). Filter
the water from the horse gram and drink the water every day morning in the empty stomach (mild salt
can be added for taste). After half an hour you can take regular breakfast. Taking this Kollukudineer
(Horse gram water) regularly reduces the excess and unwanted fat from the body.
 Exercise is an important part of weight reduction plan. It helps to use up calories stored in body as fat.
In addition, it also relieves tension and tones up the muscles of the body. Walking daily for half an hour
is the best exercise to begin with and may be followed by running, swimming. Increase physical
activities in daily life. 
 Yoga and Pranayama where body, mind, breath co-ordination is essential helps significantly to reduce
weight.
PROFOUND OBESITY DIET PLAN.
1. 8.30 a.m. / 1.30 p.m. / 7.30 p.m.

Multigrain chappathi (wheat / raagi / bajra / jowar / millets) – with medium thickness and of the
circumference of your palm with extended fingers three times a day with unlimited boiled vegetables with
only turmeric/ginger/cumin/pepper/small amount of salt.
2. At 11 am / 4pm
Unlimited vegetable soups – homemade with cut vegetables and pepper at 11am
3. At 9pm
50ml milk with 50ml water
This diet can be followed for 15 days followed by 15 days of moderate obesity alternatively until desired
weight is attained.
MODERATE OBESITY PLAN
All rice based foods has to be taken only once daily (Rice based - Appam / Uttappam / Adai / Dosai / Idly
/ Paniyaram / Pongal / Idiyappam / Rice puttu / Rice / Variety Rice / kozhukattaietc)
1. Breakfast 8.30 – 9.30am
Have one of the following dish or its equivalent:
 Wheat RavaUpmaKozhukattai
 Sprouted Wheat Adai
 Sprouted Green Gram Dosa with Mint Leaves Chutney
 RagiSevai/ Wheat RavaIdli/ Sprouted Green Gram Vada (Have this once in a month)
 Oats uttappam/Sprouted chick peas idli/Sprouted soya beans sundal
2. Mid morning 11.30am
 A glass of orange, mosambi, lemon juice.
 Have a cup of coffee/tea/juice with no sugar.
3. Lunch 1.00 – 1.30pm
 Lunch - Salad of raw vegetables such as carrot, beet, cucumber, cabbage, tomatoes. In case you cannot
digest raw vegetables, either steam or boil them. Whole grain bread or whole wheat chapathis (Indian
recipe) and a glass of buttermilk. It will be good to add some roasted cumin seeds, green coriander
leaves, a little salt and some grated ginger in the butter milk. 
 Have 2 rotis or Wheat RavaKichidi / Wheat RavaBiriyani with two or three suggested vegetable side
dishes and a cup of curd.
 If you are taking rice - take 1 cup along with 2 cups of vegetables.
 Choice of Rotis: Phulka, Sprouted Green Gram Parantha, MethiThepla
Choice of Side Dish (to be taken with 2 rotis)
 Green Gram with Cabbage and Green Peas
 Garlic RaithaMulaiKeerai(Amaranth Leaves) and Moong dal gravy

 Chow chow(Chayote Squash) Bhaji, Snakegourd Vegetable with Sprouted Green Gram, Bottle Gourd
Kootu, Plantain Stem and Sprouted Green Gram Usili Curry
 Sprouted Green Gram Kofta in Palak Gravy
 Cabbage Curry, Onion Kothsu, MulaiKeerai(Amaranth Leaves) and Moong dal gravy
 Chow chow(Chayote Squash) Bhaji
4. EVENING 5.00p.m: Lemon tea or vegetable soup
5. DINNER 8.00 – 8.30pm
Whole grain bread or chapatis, steamed vegetables and any seasonal fruit except banana and apple, have
soup or porridge with green salad or selective fruits like pappaya, apple, and pear and so on.
Choice of Soups, Salads and Porridge (to be taken with 2 slices of Wheat Bread)
 Sprouted Green Gram Soup
 Healthy Vegetable Salad
 Sprouted Ragi and Mixed Vegetable Porridge
 Vegetable Stew
 Oats Porridge
 Foods to be taken in proper time, gap between food and sleep should be atleast 2 hours.
FOR PEPTIC ULCERPATIENTS
 Avoid coffee, Tea. Eat in time, fasting, over eating, fried foods, junk food, pickles, non-veg, hotel food,
fast food, night work, long travel, anxiety, tension, anger, over excitement must be avoided. Keep calm
and composed. Do meditation.
 Take salt less jaggerymix it with water and filter it then mix it with puffed rice and few crushed elachi
stir it well. Take the mixture twice a day morning and evening in empty stomach. Make it fresh each
time before consuming, this heals the ulcer and give strength to the body.
Avoid
 Avoid chillies and instead include small amounts of pepper and dry ginger.
 Groundnut and its oil, sour curd.
 Reduce sour and spicy foods.
 Avoid certain ulcer causing modern medications such as aspirin in any form.
 Painkillers and arthritis medications (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAID's) which contain
ibuprofen (again, check those packaging inserts).
 Antacids should be used sparingly or avoided - most antacids contain magnesium and can cause
diarrhea.
 Alcohol and smoking can increase the problems to a great extent hence avoid it totally
Include
 All green vegetables,fibre rich foods, fruits can be taken frequently.

 Include pomegranates, fig, manathakkalikeerai(sun berry), coconut milk, raisins, almond, pori, aval,
amla and butter milk. If diabetic avoid sugary fruits.
 Eat slowly and chew food well.
 Pain killers and arthritis medications should be taken after consultation with the doctors.
CONSTIPATION/ HAEMORRHOIDS DIET
 Reduce cinnamon, tamarind, oily/fried foods,.
 Include fiber rich foods like spinach, bottle guard, small onion,fenugreek, curry leaves, beans, brinjal,
lady’s finger, plantain stem, raddish, barley, snake guard, yam, garlic, , coriander more in your diet.
 Drink butter milk frequently.
 Must include yam, green gram, rajma, honey, barley, oats, almond, brown rice, coconut milk, milk,
amla, raisins, pomegranate, banana, and wood apple(vilampazham).
 Avoid hotel foods, non-veg including egg.
 Avoid alcohol consumption and smoking

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS)


Low Protein, High Carbohydrates and normal vitamins and minerals, Low fat and medium fibre diet is
recommended
All diet mentioned under the general diet topic at the beginning has to be followed.
Foods to be included: Cereals, grains and Products, Wheat, Rice, Ragi, Maize (tender), Bajra (kambu) and
Jowar(cholam) Moderately
Pulses and Legumes:Moong dhal/Green gram(whole and splitted)
Red Gram (very less quantity)
Leafy Vegetables: Amaranth (Mulaikeerai), Bottle gourd leaves, Broad bean leaves, Celery leaves, celery stalk

 Sesame Balls (Ellurundai) one once in two days.
 Horsegram as Decoction or as a regular food ingredient.
 Asafoetida is an important food as per siddha, Ayurveda texts for inducing ovulation and cycles hence
asafetida cakes have to be bought, fried in ghee and to be used in foods as frequently as possible.
 Blackgram, Garlic, Soya must be included a lot into your daily food.
 Pepper, Cinnamon, coriander seeds, cardamom, cumin, ginger to be included more.
 Soya oil, sesame oil can be used for cooking purposes.
 Pomegranate is to be invariably included in the diet. Apart from it papaya, dates, dry grapes, fig,
pineapple can be used frequently.
 Curry Leaves (Karuveppilai – KuruppaiVeppaiElai) as the name suggests in tamil is a specific supplement
to safe guard uterus / cervix hence to be consumed daily as one spoon of the powder n the first
bolus/morsel of lunch. Drumstickleaves should be taken frequently.
 Daily 45 minutes walking is must.

DYSMENORRHEA DIET
 Avoid sugar, chocolates, caffeine, fast foods, packed foods etc..
 Avoid High-salt content foods like french fries, pizza and other fried foods, junk foods.
 Inadequate sleep will cause dysmenorrhea.
 Include fruits rich in vitamins like(papaya,pomegranate, banana, watermelon etc)
 Brown rice (contains vitamin B-6, which may reduce bloating)
 Eat more walnuts, almonds, and pumpkin seeds and green leafy vegetables (rich in manganese, which
eases cramps)
 Ginger tea, cinnamon/ peppermint tea can reduce the muscle cramps.
 Cucumber, amla, flaxseed, sesame seeds(contains omega-3s with antioxidant properties, which reduce
swelling and inflammation)
 Change tampons every 4 - 5 hours. Avoid scented pads and tampons, feminine deodorants can irritate
the genital area.
MENORRHAGIA DIET
 Eating excessive amounts of sugar - such as cakes, cookies and chocolates can aggravate your
menstrual bleeding.
 Avoid High-salt content foods like french fries, pizza and other fried foods, junk foods.
 Avoid Caffeine containing beverages like tea and coffee should be avoided as they can contribute to
headaches, mood swings and disturbed sleep. Instead, have drinks like peppermint tea, that have
cooling properties.
 Change Your Contraceptive. If you have heavy or irregular bleeding is the result of using a
copper intrauterine device (IUD) or taking oral contraceptives, consult your doctor about using a
different contraceptive.
 Physical and psychological stress should be strictly avoided.
 Amla powder with honey and water reduce excess bleeding.
 Eating cooked banana flower with a cup of curd, helps to control excessive menstrual bleeding. 
 A tea prepared by one cinnamon stick/ mango bark powder in a cup of boiling water is very effective
for heavy menstrual bleeding.
 Jujube frit, scared fig juice/fresh fruit can be taken twice a day during menstrual cycle to treat heavy
bleeding.
 Ginger tea, fenugreek seeds, amla will helps to reduce the muscular cramps.
 Include more iron rich foods like fruits, dry fruits, nuts, spinach, whole grains etc.
 Include Vitamin C rich foods like indian goose berries, lemon juice and Calcium rich foods like bananas
and ragi.
FOR KIDNEY STONE PATIENTS

 All types of Keerai, ash gourd (Poosanikai), tomato, cashew nut, cauliflower, mushroom, amla,snake
gourd (Pudalangai),Brinjal, Milk, Curd, cabbage, sour fruits should be avoided.
 Foods like plantain stem (Vazaithandu), radish(Mullangi), barley,banana, almond, carrot, corn, horse
gram, Ladies finger help reduce symptoms.
 Drink water frequently and avoid taking large quantity of water at once. Do not control urination.
Urinate whenever you feel do so. Use the preparation given in obesity advice, so that it dissolves and
brings out the kidney stones quickly.
 Reduce the amount of salt you eat and choose non-animal protein sources, such as legumes.
 Continue eating calcium-rich foods, but use caution with calcium supplements. Calcium in food
doesn't have an effect on your risk of kidney stones. Continue eating calcium-rich foods unless your
doctor advises otherwise.
 Soak 2 teaspoon of radish seeds in a glass of water, boil and reduce it to half. Strain and drink 1/2 cup
of it twice a day to assist in dissolving kidney stones.
 Seeds and the juice of pomegranate are considered effective remedies for kidney stones. Studies have
shown that pomegranate juice may prevent the formation of kidney stones. Pomegranate is full of
antioxidants and eating pomegranate on a regular basis can help keep your kidneys healthy.
RENAL DIET
 Restricted Proteins, High carbohydrate, Salt restricted moderate fat with restricted fluid are
recommended. Restricted amount of milk and milk products
 Foods like sugar, honey, arrow root, sago unsalted butter, vegetable oils and ghee can be included.
Food to be Included
 Cereal grains and products very restricted quantities, preferably maize tender can be taken.
 Very restricted quantities of pulses can be taken
 Vegetables to be included:Fenugreek Leaves, Lettuce, Beet root, Bottle Gourd, Broad beans, Cucumber,
Knol–Khol, Ridge Gourd,ChowChow.
Vegetables to be taken in restricted quantities
Carrots, Onion- small, French beans, Ladies finger, Onion stalks, Plantain flower, Pumpkin (white), Green
tomatoes.
Fruits to be Included
Papaya, Apple, Banana (kerala) steamed and limited, Pomegranate.

 Commercial soft drinks and proprietary drinks where sodium or potassium is present.
 Dried foods like fish, dried fruits and soup cubes
MEDICINES DOSE AND ADJUVENT
 Kashayam should be taken only half an hour before food.
 Churanam/ mixed with parpam to be taken with milk/ warm water usually 20 minutes after food.
 Churanam mixed with chenduram / Karuppu to taken with honey usually 20 minutes after food.
 Tablet/ capsule to be taken with warm water
 Before food tablets/capsule/ oil/ ghee should be taken 15 – 20 minutes with warm water
 After taking Leygium/ rasayanam drink 50ml of warm milk.
 Pain oils to be heated indirectly and applied over the joints for 20 minutes and fomentation with a towel
immersed in hot water is to be given for atleast 10 minutes.
 Skin oil should not be heated.
 Linement type oil can be directly appliedto the affected area, need not be heated and fomentation with a
towel immersed in hot water is to be given for atleast 10 minutes.
 Ghee/ internal oils to be taken with milk.
LEPAM METHOD
HEADACHE / SWOLLEN JOINTS
 Powder/ tablet given for lepam should be mixed with warm water or as directed by physician and
applied to the affected area.
FACE PACK
 Powder/ tablet given for lepam should be mixed with Rose water (Panneer) / Curd / Milk or as directed
by physician and applied to the affected area.
HAIR PACK
 Powder/ tablet given for lepam should be mixed with Lemon Juice / Curd / Oil / Egg White / warm
water or as directed by physician and applied to whole scalp / hair / affected area alone.
KASHYAM METHOD
 Take 5 gram (1 spoon full) of Powder and add 200ml of water then boil in low flame with partially covered
lid to make decoction and reduce the total content to 40ml. Filter the kashayam and take half an hour
before food.
 Always prepare fresh kashayam and use it within 3 hours.
 If bottled kashayam is prescribed, it has to shaken well and 10ml (2 caps) of the kashayam to be mixed
with warm water and taken 20 minutes before food twice daily.
NASYAM METHOD

 Lie down on a cot comfortably and see to that, your neck is at the edge of the cot and the head is tilted
downwards. Now instil slightly warm nasyam oil 2-5 drops into each nostrils and be in the position for
atleast 3 – 5 minutes. You will get the oil in throat and production of phlegm which all to be spitted out
into a spittoon until everything comes out.
 Now rise up and give yourself a warm towel bath to the face and neck.
 Repeat the procedure twice daily. Avoid doing it immediately after food and in a hurry.
VELLAI POONDU PAAL KASHAYAM / LASHUNA KSHEERA PAAKAM
A special homemade preparation for brain / spine / heart / cholesterol related disorders. to be done only if
your doctor advices you to do so.
Materials required
1. Garlic pearls – 5 grams
2. Milk – 40 ml (roughly 1.5 oz)
3. water – 40 ml (roughly 1.5 oz)
Preparation Method 
Remove the husk from the garlic. pound it to make a paste.
Take milk and water in a small vessel. Add garlic to it.
Boil this mixture in openly, in mild heat, with continuous stirring, till only 40 ml (1.5 oz) of liquid remains in the
vessel.
Filter the content.
Dose: 10 ml for adults two times a day. Just before food, or after food.
Once prepared, this recipe should be finished within 10 – 12 hours.
Benefits:
This garlic milk remedy is useful to relieve
– abdominal bloating, feeling as if gas is filled in stomach
– constipation
–  chronic fever
– abscess, unhealed wounds.
Because of its potent action against pain and inflammation, this a good home remedy for back pain related to
sciatica / slip disc.
Here, the fat and water soluble active principles are transferred into milk media. Milk being a coolant in
nature, reduces the hotness and pungency of garlic. For those who cannot tolerate hotness and pungency of
raw garlic, this is the second best method to enjoy garlic benefits.
