IEEE - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

IEEE or Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is the world's

largest technical professional society, dedicated to advancing innovation and

technological excellence for the benefit of humanity. It is intended for

professionals working in all areas of electrical, electronic, and computing

expertise, as well as related science and technology fields that underlie

modern civilization.

By the early 21st century, IEEE served its members and their interests with

39 Societies; 130 journals, transactions, and magazines; more than 300

conferences annually; and 900 active standards.

In line with this is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

Standards Association (IEEE SA) which is an operating unit within IEEE that

develops global standards in a broad range of individuals and organizations

from a wide range of technical and geographic points of origin to facilitate

standards development and standards related collaboration

Under IEEE SA are some standards that is discussed by the reporters which

are IEE STD 141 - Recommended Practice for Electric Power Distribution for

Industrial Plants, IEEE C2- National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and
IEEE STD 241- Recommended Practice for Electric Power Systems in

Commercial Buildings.

IEEE standard 141, is a publication that provides a recommended practice

for the electrical design of industrial facilities. It can also be an aid to all

engineers responsible for the electrical design of industrial facilities.

This standard highlights the System Requirements for industrial plants,

Voltage control in electric power systems where connections of small to large

plants are discussed, and Short Circuits Current Calculations called

subtransient reactance, transient reactance, and synchronous reactance.

IEEE C2: National Electrical Safety Code, This Standard has Four Parts

which provides standards that concern the practical safeguarding of persons

during installation operation and maintenance of electric supply and

communication lines associated with equipment. The code is composed of four

parts wherein, each respective part has its attention centered onto a practice

where electrical supply and communications lines are present.

IEEE standard 241, is a publication that provides a guide and general

reference on electrical design for commercial buildings. It covers load

characteristics; voltage considerations; power sources and distribution

apparatus; controllers; services, vaults, and electrical equipment rooms;

wiring systems and so on.

In conclusion, IEEE is a leading developer of industry standards in a broad

range of technologies that drive the functionality, capabilities, and

interoperability of products and services, transforming how people live, work,

and communicate. IEEE SA provides a neutral platform that unites

communities for standards development and technological innovation and is

independent of any government oversight. IEEE SA develops standards that

are consensus-based and has two types of standards development

participation models. These are individual and entity.
