DSAS DIAGNOSTIC CHECKLIST

DSAS DIAGNOSTIC CHECKLIST

Vessel name       DSAS serial number DCC010

Please refer to the attached plan of the unit (Figure 1 at the end of this document) for guidance when performing
these diagnostic tests.

1. Check that the installation has a clear view of the satellite with no obstructions. Are there any other
communications and/or electronic installations mounted within 2m of the DSAS? If so, please state what
they are and how close they are.

2. Take off the lid from the unit. Remove fuse F2, then remove fuse F5 (see Figure 1).

3. Check the continuity of fuses F2 and F5 using the continuity setting on your multimeter.

Fuse Continuity OK?

F2 Yes No

F5 Yes No

4. What is the DC voltage across the BATTERY terminals (POS + & NEG -)?       V DC

5. Replace fuse F5. LEDs 2 – 6 should each flash in turn. Yes

No
Then replace fuse F2.

6. Wait two minutes (to allow the unit to verify the external power supply is OK). Which of the following
LEDs stay on at the end of this sequence? (Tick only one box for each LED.)

LED ON / LIT OFF / NOT LIT FLASHING

LED 1 + Charge

LED 2 OP1

LED 3 OP2

LED 4 OP3

LED 5 OP4

LED 6 OP5

7. What is the DC voltage at the '24S' terminal relative to GROUND?       V DC

8. Is there an AC component in the supply voltage? (Set meter to V AC.) Yes

No

9. Disconnect the external power supply (this can be done by removing fuse F2). What is the state of the
following LEDs after two minutes?

LED ON / LIT OFF / NOT LIT FLASHING

LED 1 + Charge

LED 6 OP5

10. Do a visual check of the circuit board. Do any components appear to be damaged? If so, which ones?

11. Check that the black plastic connector is securely attached to the underside of the DMR-800 transceiver and
that the locking ring is tight. (It may be necessary to undo the two Philips head screws on the base plate to
check this.)

Do any LEDs flash? Please note the flashing patterns below.

LED Pattern Tick

13. If NO LEDs are lit over a period of 10 seconds, then check the 2A in-line fuse attached to the ‘RADIO
UNIT POS’ terminal. In order to do this, undo the two Philips head screws on either side of the top plate and
hinge open the top plate (see Figure 1).

14. Return this completed checklist to your Pole Star distributor.
