Solution :

Option A

To find how much money we received for 1000 days we use formula :

Sn = n/2 · (2a1 + (n − 1) · d)

In this example we have the first term which is 1000 that we received on the first dat
a1 = 1000 , common difference of 1 d = −1 , and the number of days n = 1000. , we
obtain:

Sn = n 2 · (2a1 + (n − 1) · d)
S1000 = 1000/2 · (2 · 1000 + (1000 − 1) · (−1))
S1000 = 1000/2 · (2000 + 999 · (−1))
S1000 = 1000/2 · (2000 + (−999))
S1000 = 1000/2 · 1001
S1000 = 500500

Option B

To find how much money we received for 19 days considering each day has a
common ratio of 2, we use formula :

Sn = a1 · 1 − r n / 1 − r

In this option we have the first term which is 1 Php in first day a1 = 1 , a common
ratio of r = 2 , and the number of days n = 19, we obtain:

Sn = a1 · 1 − r n / 1 − r
S19 = 1 · 1 − 2 19 / 1 − 2
S19 = 1 · 524287
S19 = 524287

Answer and Conclusion :

We may conclude that option B is better than option A after calculating how
much we will receive for both options. On your birthday, you will receive 524,287
PHP, which is 23,787 more than option A. Option B, which is a geometric series with
a common ratio of 2 despite the fact that it is only 19 days long, is far superior to
Option A, which is an arithmetic sequence with a common difference of -1 despite the
fact that it is 1000 days long. Overall. Alternative B is a better option for your 18 th
birthday party since it allows you to buy more gifts and prepare more dishes.
